Activities at The Dales Care Home
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.
Kay Thompson
Hi, my name is Kay and I am the activities coordinator here at the Dales. I joined the team in June 2021 and I love spending time with the residents each day, delivering meaningful activities that keep our residents active and social stimulated, more importantly we have fun! Our life enrichment programme is varied and we have lots to do!
Before I joined the home I was a lecturer teaching young individuals with high needs, it is very different being an activities coordinator but it does help with understand how to ensure everyone is happy each and every day in everything that we do.
I look forward to meeting you when you visit our home.

Activities and Events Partnerships
As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies
Life at The Dales Care Home
Starlings with Royal Parks
Across our services our residents have enjoyed a wonderful live virtual talk about starlings, one of the UK’s most gregarious birds, hosted by Rachel Dowse from The Royal Parks London.
Rachel examined our long history with this bird and the importance of common species to our lives. Our residents had the opportunity to find out more about the great murmuration and why we need to pay special attention to these beauties before it's too late.
The virtual experience was truly enjoyed by all.
Christmas Pantomime
We were treated to a wonderful Christmas Pantomime. Fabulous morning with Eva Long Production – Jack and the Beanstalk. We loved every second of it, joined in with the Christmas carols after the show, finished with a cup of tea and carried on singing.
Reindeer Antler Game
The residents here at The Dales have had a fun day of Christmas games. Fun reindeer antlers game, good doing a warm up and then the residents won the competition against staff.
Neil and his Saxaphone
It's been great having Neil here at The Dales. Playing his fabulous Christmas tunes with residents and staff singing along. We finished off with a lovely cup of tea and mince pies.
A special visitor spreads festive joy
A wonderful visitor this morning here at The Dales! Last year Grinch did his rounds and this year it was fabulous to welcome the Gingerbread Man! Merry Christmas everyone!
Hark the Herald Sweets sing...
Heavenly voices rang out at The Dales Care Home as the community came together to celebrate Christmas with a carol concert. Staff and residents at Barchester’s, The Dales care home, in Skipton, got in the Christmas spirit by inviting the community to come and join in with a carol concert to sing some festive Christmas favourites. The playing of musical instruments and singing was led by one of a Memory Lane residents’ family, the Sweet family.
There was mulled wine, hot chocolate, roasted chestnuts and toasted marshmallows along with lots of other Christmas treats all prepared by head chef, Patrick Bonus to get everyone feeling festive.
