Activities at The Dales Care Home
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.
Kay Thompson
Hi, my name is Kay and I am the activities coordinator here at the Dales. I joined the team in June 2021 and I love spending time with the residents each day, delivering meaningful activities that keep our residents active and social stimulated, more importantly we have fun! Our life enrichment programme is varied and we have lots to do!
Before I joined the home I was a lecturer teaching young individuals with high needs, it is very different being an activities coordinator but it does help with understand how to ensure everyone is happy each and every day in everything that we do.
I look forward to meeting you when you visit our home.

Life at The Dales Care Home
Art and Tunes Therapy
A lovely day with Joe and his art and tunes therapy. Amazing calming tunes being played by Joe with a magical instrument while we did some colouring of beautiful pictures. A relaxing afternoon for everyone.
Sing along with Emma
A great bit of singing along and seat dancing. It was great having Emma back with us, a mixture of songs had staff and residents enjoying the morning. Followed with a lovely cup of tea and a slice of cake.
Remembrance Sunday
Remembrance Sunday is a day to commemorate the contribution of British and Commonwealth military and civilian servicemen and women in the two World Wars and later conflicts. During the day, our residents enjoyed putting a remembrance display together, with their own handmade wreaths and poppies, which turned out beautifully. We enjoyed a special church service to honour veterans and armed forces members who have died in the line of duty and we read some war poems.
Home celebrate Long Service Award
A Carer at The Dales Care Home in Skipton has received a prestigious 25 Year Service Award in celebration of working at Barchester Healthcare for 25 years. June Norton, now Carer, started at Barchester in November 1997 and has worked with residents and their relatives to ensure that their needs have been met over the years.
Roisin Doyle, General Manager of The Dales said: “We’re delighted to be celebrating 25 years of loyal service with June. She has demonstrated her dedication and loyalty to this home and its residents year after year. I speak for all of us here at The Dales when I say that I’m looking forward to many more years of working with June!”
Pumpkin creations
Happy Halloween from us all at The Dales. A mixture of pumpkin house making to pumpkin painting. All ready for the ‘not so spooky’ day, happy trick or treating everyone!
Therapy creatures
It has been a while since we had the little creatures visiting us last here at The Dales. Amazing how we have been afraid of them before but these creatures do the magic of making us all interested and finding it very therapeutic.
