Activities at The Dales Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Kay Thompson

Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Kay and I am the activities coordinator here at the Dales.  I joined the team in June 2021 and I love spending time with the residents each day, delivering meaningful activities that keep our residents active and social stimulated, more importantly we have fun!  Our life enrichment programme is varied and we have lots to do!

Before I joined the home I was a lecturer teaching young individuals with high needs, it is very different being an activities coordinator but it does help with understand how to ensure everyone is happy each and every day in everything that we do.

I look forward to meeting you when you visit our home.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Life at The Dales Care Home

Live entertainment

Always lovely having vocalist, Lianne with us here at The Dales. Everyone  enjoys her popular performances and ensures we are singing along too!  We also have a lot of fun with toe tapping and dancing along too!

Holy Trinity Service

A lovely service here at The Dales yesterday. We enjoyed the distribution of Holy Communion, prayed, talked and sang ‘I dance in the morning’. We finished of with a lovely talk and a cup of tea!

Good luck to retiring carer

After almost 15 years of continuous service at The Dales in Skipton, much-loved carer, Linda McCann has decided to retire.   Staff and residents at the home sent Linda off in style with an afternoon tea party and presents to thank her for many years of dedication to the home, it was a lovely party for all to recognise and celebrate her long service. Everyone at the home has very fond memories of Linda and she will be sadly missed.

Royal Botanic Garden

Our homes enjoyed a wonderful virtual tour of the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh with Community Engagement Manager, Charlotte Walker, and Botanic Cottage Operations Co-ordinator, Laura Gallagher.

The residents were thrilled to learn more about the history of the beautiful Garden, which is now a home to an impressive plant collection from around the world.

Charlotte and Laura also gave a demonstration of making fresh herbal tea and were happy to answer our questions.  The virtual experience was truly enjoyed by all who joined.

Church Service

A lovely service with Holy Trinity Rector, James Theodosius from Skipton. We all came together and paid our respects to her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, we were praying, singing hymns and finished off with a lovely cup of tea honouring the Queen and talking about her extraordinary life.

Hedgehog home

We have been putting together and painting a hedgehog home. Hedgehogs are always welcome so we thought it would be a good idea to make sure they have a little home to move in to as the weather starts to get a little colder.
