Activities at The Dales Care Home
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.
Kay Thompson
Hi, my name is Kay and I am the activities coordinator here at the Dales. I joined the team in June 2021 and I love spending time with the residents each day, delivering meaningful activities that keep our residents active and social stimulated, more importantly we have fun! Our life enrichment programme is varied and we have lots to do!
Before I joined the home I was a lecturer teaching young individuals with high needs, it is very different being an activities coordinator but it does help with understand how to ensure everyone is happy each and every day in everything that we do.
I look forward to meeting you when you visit our home.

Activities and Events Partnerships
As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies
Life at The Dales Care Home
Hedgehog home
We have been putting together and painting a hedgehog home. Hedgehogs are always welcome so we thought it would be a good idea to make sure they have a little home to move in to as the weather starts to get a little colder.
Roald Dahl
A lovely morning of the Roald Dahl Day. Going through our book set and colouring in some amazing characters. We finished the day with watching and singing along with the 1971 Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory film.
Home hosts charity event
To mark Alzheimers Awareness Month, staff, residents, relatives and the local community came together on Wednesday 21st September at The Dales Care Home in Skipton to raise funds and enjoy a Coffee Morning held at the home.
The Dales hosted a variety of fund-raising activities throughout the day, including themed games, raffle and time to talk. There was also live enternainment, with a local talent called Souljazz 2 which was enjoyed by everyone who came to the event.
General Manager, Roisin Doyle, commented: “Staff at The Dales are dedicated to making sure that the home is a hub of the local community, and this event for Alzheimers Awareness, along with all their hard work, has definitely paid off. It was a resounding success!”
Beautiful bouquets
Our homes had a fantastic time joining members of the Wallace Collection for an amazing sensory session.
During the live virtual experience, our residents explored one of the museum’s most beautiful Dutch flower paintings and learnt new drawing techniques.
We cannot wait to put our creative skills to a test and produce beautiful paintings of our own.
Everyone enjoyed the lovely talk, we all had lots of fun and it’s given us plenty of ideas.
A morning of puzzles
A new shape pieces jigsaw completed here at The Dales. A South American Rainforest jigsaw puzzle with 70 pieces was put together on Memory Lane. It took a little while to get used to the new shapes but we were very happy seeing the full picture once we finished!
Yorkshire Day
A lovely Yorkshire Day here at The Dales. The beautiful place and home here in Yorkshire enjoying the amazing views and weather while creating our own little white roses. We finished off with a proper cut of Yorkshire teas and biscuits.
