Activities at The Dales Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Kay Thompson

Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Kay and I am the activities coordinator here at the Dales.  I joined the team in June 2021 and I love spending time with the residents each day, delivering meaningful activities that keep our residents active and social stimulated, more importantly we have fun!  Our life enrichment programme is varied and we have lots to do!

Before I joined the home I was a lecturer teaching young individuals with high needs, it is very different being an activities coordinator but it does help with understand how to ensure everyone is happy each and every day in everything that we do.

I look forward to meeting you when you visit our home.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Life at The Dales Care Home

World Lion Day

Here at The Dales we filled up Lion shaped clear bottles with our chosen coloured sand to create the beautiful colourful Lions. We finished off watching The Lion King and enjoyed some ice cream – keeping us cool in the hot weather.

International Cat Day

Amazing bit of art work putting together and pen painting some little boxes for putting sweets in but we decided all they need is some beautiful little plants. A happy International Cat Day.

Musical mystery tour

Our homes had a brilliant time with curator Sarah Deters as she took us on a virtual ‘Music Through the Ages’ tour of St Cecilia’s Hall: Concert Room and Music Museum.

Our residents were thrilled to discover weird and wonderful musical instruments, hear their unusual sounds, and find out how instruments have changed over the last 500 years.

The virtual live event explored the world-renown collection of musical instruments on display at St Cecilia’s Hall, Scotland’s oldest concert hall.

Summer Fete brings community together

Staff, residents, relatives and the local community came together at The Dales Care Home to enjoy a Summer Fete that was held in the home’s grounds over a sunny August weekend.

The Dales hosted a variety of activities throughout the day, including live entertainment with the residents favourite vocalist, dancing, a selection of games from mini basketball, giant noughts and crosses, a delicious BBQ and much more! - which were enjoyed by everyone who came to the event.

Residents enjoy Commonwealth games

Residents and staff at The Dales care home in Skipton have been cheering on Team England and Scotland throughout the Commonwealth Games.  The home has been decked out with flags and residents have been enjoying all the action over the past two weeks.  Everyone at the home has loved seeing all of our amazing athletes progress.

Sports fans at The Dales were delighted to be able to watch this year’s Games, especially given they are taking place on home soil in Birmingham.  Residents and staff have had a brilliant time getting together to watch all of the different events.

Jigsaw fun

A very therapeutic ladies afternoon. The amazing 63 piece jigsaw puzzle of Monte’s Garden was put together by residents and staff. Our next challenge is 100 pieces of Jungle Life.
