Activities at Derham House Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Life at Derham House Care Home

Mince Pie Making

Today at Derham house we made mince pies.

The residents had a great time rolling the pastry filling them with mincemeat and baking them.

Oh the aroma wafting around the home was lovely but the anticipation to eat them was too much. Once they came out the oven, we waited for them to cool enough to eat and they were heavenly.

Some of the residents enjoyed them that much they had seconds.

WELL DONE LADIES!!

Spirit of the Wild

Today our residents had the pleasure of meeting some very unusual wildlife.

Ben and his team let us get up close and personal and allow our residents a chance to hold and stroke a variety of creatures including a Python, Fruit Bat, Katydid, Barn Owl and Ice the Husky.

Many of these animals live in different parts of the world so our residents had never seen before, Ben gave a good presentation about all the animals.

Animals have many advantages and provides positive therapy by stimulating the senses as well as the mind.

Elf Day!

Today was National Elf Day!

What's National Elf Day you ask?

Well it's a day of dress up to unleash your inner Elf and spread some festive cheer to raise awareness for people affected by dementia and their families.

Whether it be with a festive Elf hat or sparkly selfie snap, how you celebrate Elf Day is for you to decide, but whatever you do, do it with pride.

Remeberence Day

On the 11th hour of the 11th day on the 11th month we shall remember them.

Derham House made a remembrance wall to remember the residents and family members who fought for our country past and present.

Our residents enjoyed singing to songs from the 40’s from our amazing singer Tracey Lea.

Animal Therapy

The residents thoroughly enjoyed a visit from an owl this week.

It was lovely to see the joy on the resident's faces as they interacted with the amazing creature of the night.

For some residents, this experience was particularly meaningful, and it truly brought a smile to everyone’s day.

The owl’s visit provided a unique form of pet therapy for the residents.

The event was attended by the care home residents and staff, creating an atmosphere of warmth and excitement throughout Derham House.

Pamper Day

What an amazing feeling to have your hair and nails done. Some of our residents enjoyed a lovely manicure while waiting to have their hair washed and blow dried.

Our weekly event offers residents the opportunity to treat themselves to a brand new look or simply enjoy a pampering session to uplift their spirits.

In our salon Julie works her magic, providing haircuts, styling and treatments to those who wish to partake. Julie caters to the individual preference for each resident.

Meanwhile, the dedicated Activity team spoil the ladies with soothing manicures adding a touch of glamour to their day. The gentle care and attention lavished upon them contribute to their overall wellbeing and a sense of self-worth.

Pamper days offer benefits for mental health and emotional wellbeing.
