Activities at Derham House Care Home
Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Kay Thompson
I have worked in the care sector for many years. I am fully trained in dementia awareness, and I have also trained as a dignity champion. I have been working here at Derham House since March 2019, and I am really enjoying my role here.
Activities and Events Partnerships
As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies
Life at Derham House Care Home

Performing Pets Easter Special
Our wonderful friends at Performing Pets never fail to amaze us during their visits. This week we had the absolute joy of meeting Marthaaaaaa the lamb!
We were relieved to learn that Martha is a budding TV star and so will not be ending up on a dinner plate this Sunday. The Performing Pets team shared details of Martha's birth and life so far along with her shining future.
Animal therapy is an important part of our life enrichment program and is regularly featured on the weekly resident-led activities calendars.

St Patrick's Day
St Patrick's Day was a huge success as always at Derham House!
We had dancers, a singer, Guinness, Irish-style food and some great laughs. The talented Cliff Jones performed wonderfully for our residents whilst the amazing dancers from Maguire's Osheas Dance Academy had us up and joining in!

Garden Centre Visit
There is nothing like a trip to the garden centre. We love our visits to Thurrock Garden Centre on a sunny morning.
Pottering in our garden helps reduce stress, promotes feelings of accomplishment and boosts self-esteem.

Mother's Day
Happy Mother's Day
Our wonderful mothers always deserve celebrating and at Derham House we make sure each mother feels loved and cherished.
Presents, cards, flowers and messages of affection are just some of the ways we honour our wonderful resident mothers.

Christmas Choir
Today at Derham House we welcomed back the 2nd Cranham scouts cubs and beavers club who came to perform some Christmas carols and some classic Christmas songs that they had jazzed up it was very funny and seeing the residents laugh was priceless, However there was an impostor present the naughty elf thought he could slip into someone’s pocket and join the carols O you naughty elf!!! Well you did have a good voice so we will let you off LOL.
But the highlight was one scout singing giants in the sky from the Disney movie into the woods it was an outstanding performance worthy of a golden buzzer WELL DONE young man you should be on the west end stage.
As Simon Cowell would say I didn’t like it I LOVED IT !!
Here is the added lyrics
Rudolph, the red-nosed reindeer
Had a very shiny nose
And if you ever saw it
You would even say it glows 'LIKE A LIGHT BULB'
All of the other reindeers
Used to laugh and call him names 'LIKE PINOCHIO'
They never let poor Rudolph
Join in any reindeer games 'LIKE MONOPLY'
Then one foggy Christmas eve
Santa came to say
"Rudolph, with your nose so bright
Won't you guide my sleigh tonight?"
Then how the reindeer loved him
As they shouted out with glee 'WITH GLEE!!'
Rudolph, the red-nosed reindeer
You'll go down in history 'LIKE THE DINOSAURS'
A wonderful afternoon had by all and we look forward to welcoming the scouts back in the New Year.

Fireworks Night
Derham House hosted a small fireworks display for the residents and their families and staff families too.
It was a great success with very colourful Roman candles and fountains to some low noise rockets and sparklers the smiles on the residents and children’s faces was priceless.
One lady said it reminded her of being back home in Croatia with her family she was very happy especially with the hot chocolate s’mores and toasted marshmallows.
A lovely evening had by all.
