Activities at Derham House Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Life at Derham House Care Home

Pudding Club

It’s that time of the month again, Pudding Club and our residents voted for Treacle Pudding, having spoken about their fond memories of this pudding and going through their cook books it definitely was one to be enjoyed.

Eileen one of our residents said “it was just the right amount of treacle and tasted delicious but of course I helped baked it" with little help from Chef Renata.

We look forward to our residents reminiscing about more of their favourite puddings and giving little tips along the way.

Trip to St Joseph’s Church

Today at Derham House, we took a trip to St Joseph’s Catholic Church in Upminster for Sunday mass. Research shows that regular attendance at church services may significantly decrease your risk of loneliness by providing social support.

Church makes it possible to meet community members and new friends. Even shy or introverted individuals can benefit from surrounding themselves with other churchgoers, even without conversing with anyone and have a choice of either a blessing or a communion.

Upminster Rotary adopts our home

Derham house were pleased to welcome Upminster Rotary club to our home today.

We are super excited to announce that The Rotary of Upminster have agreed to adopt our home and will look to support both our residents and the home going forward.

This support will include but not limited to befriending, reading stories, support with events, invitations to Rotary club events such as meetings or lunches and fundraising.

We are super excited to see where this new friendship takes us and what we can achieve together in the very near future.

Clayton Returns

Today at Derham house we welcomed the return of the talented Clayton and boy he didn’t disappoint the ladies.

He is such an energetic man dancing and falling on the floor playing his air guitar he is also a very cheeky chap and he serenaded lots of the ladies we had to have the nurse on standby to check blood pressure’s - even the gents were not left out with a serenade.

Two ladies were giggling like little school girls when Clayton went to park his bottom on their laps, another lady couldn’t contain herself and got up and danced with him, the joy on everyone’s faces was PRICELESS.

The highlight of the afternoon was the Mexican wave which took us about three times to master and we danced the conga to is this the way to Amarillo.

A fantastic and worn out afternoon thanks Clayton look forward to having you back at Derham.
