Activities at Drummond Grange Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Life at Drummond Grange Care Home

Night fever with V&A Dundee curator

We had a lovely time joining V&A Dundee curator, Kirsty Hassard, as she introduced us virtually to the history and design of night clubs and the club culture from the 1960s to present day.

We explored the evolution and development of night clubs around the world, from Italy to America, and closer to home, looked at their importance as cultural venues and designed spaces.

This current exhibition celebrates night clubs at a very important moment, as we all look to a brighter future where everyone can come back together, to dance and to enjoy nights out once again.

We all enjoyed the virtual talk.

National Cowboy Day and BBQ

Residents at Drummond Grange held a BBQ to coincide with National Cowboy Day which proved to be quite a success.

Residents and Staff joined in the fun outside in the glorious sunshine some dressed in cowboy dress wearing hats & checked shirts. The staff served drinks & Burgers in Buns or Hotdogs with a side Salad to residents as well.

The Residents were well protected from the sun with Suntan lotion, Gazebos, Sun Parasols everything needed. The afternoon ended with a visit from the Lasswade Riding Stables who brought along 2 of their horses for us.

Eleanor Wilson General Manager at Drummond Grange care home, said: “What a fabulous day for the residents and the staff, the atmosphere was really quite ‘electric’.  Beautiful blue skies and not a breath of wind, fabulous”.

Home admin retires after 7-years

Staff at Drummond Grange said farewell to Administrator Allan Begbie after 7years. It was a very emotional afternoon with tears and of course laughter as we all wished him well in his retirement.

Virtual introduction to Robots

We enjoyed a wonderful virtual introduction to the world of robots with V&A Dundee Curator, Kirsty Hassard.

Kirsty talked us through the history of robots and their early beginnings, the presentation traced the fascination of all things wired and wonderful and considered what the future might hold for our relationship with a multitude of mechanical machines.

It was absolutely thrilling to learn what robots can do now and what they might be able to do in the future.

Hidden jewels of Blenheim

We had a lovely time exploring the amazing gardens of Blenheim Palace through a virtual talk, hosted by the Historian - Antonia Keaney.

We enjoyed a virtual look at how the gardens at Blenheim have developed over the past 300 years - from the formality of Henry Wise through to the ‘natural’ landscape created by Capability Brown and beyond.

Everyone was very impressed by the many jewels hidden within the 150 acres of beautiful gardens.

Carer crowned Care Practitioner of the Year

Paul Black at Drummond Grange in Lasswade has been crowned Care Practitioner of the Year for the North Division in the Barchester Care Awards 2021 and is through to the national round of judging.
