Activities at Drummond Grange Care Home
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.
Katie Nicolson
Katie Nicolson is our Head of activities here at Drummond since August 2023 beforehand she worked as an activity assistant in the home for two years. Before coming to Drummond Katie has worked in many care roles over the years and studied Psychology and Sociology at Queen Margaret’s University and was awarded a Degree of Bachelor of science in Psychology and Sociology at the start of 2022. Katie loves being part of the Activity department here at Drummond Grange and bringing new and exciting opportunities and experiences to the residents. When she’s not at work Katie is a local Girl Guide leader and youth leader for her churches youth group.

Life at Drummond Grange Care Home
National Vegetarian Week
To celebrate National Vegetarian Week, staff and residents at Barchester’s Drummond Grage care home in Lasswade were treated to an interactive virtual cookery demo courtesy of chef, Alex Connell, from Vegetarian for Life.
Alex says “It was an absolute pleasure to be able to prepare these dishes for the Barchester residents and even more so because they got to taste them, despite my not being able to be there in person. Thanks to all the chefs in Barchester homes across the country who supported me to deliver this really lovely activity.”
Green Goddess joins local residents
Staff and residents at Barchester’s Drummond Grange care home in Lasswade were treated to an armchair work out courtesy of the Green Goddess, Diana Moran, and Shackleton’s furniture company, followed by a mindfulness session led by Shackleton’s Emma Raybould.
Shackletons and Diana both celebrate the importance of exercise, a healthy diet and mindfulness, particularly in later living. Diana has been working with Shackletons since 2019 to promote their bespoke seating. She has produced a series of exercise videos extolling the virtues of gentle exercise in a Shackletons chair.
Home honours nurses on World Nurses Day
Drummond Grange care home in Lasswade held an Afternoon Tea with quizzes and games along with a lot of laughter to celebrate International Nurses’ Day and support its nurses and care staff who make a real difference to the lives of those in their care.
Nurses’ Day is a chance to recognise and reward the important work and dedication of nurses everywhere, who often go above and beyond the call of duty.
Double celebrations at Drummond Grange
It was double celebrations at Drummond Grange as resident, Morag celebrated her birthday, the same day as National Tea Day. The birthday girl, Morag enjoyed a visit from her family before being presented with a delicious chocolate cake and a selection of cakes, biscuits and teas especially prepared by the homes hospitality team. Everyone joined the birthday girl and it was a wonderful day for all.
Grand National fun at home!
Residents and staff at local care home Drummond Grange in Lasswade celebrated the Grand National this weekend by having their own one.
The Grand National which has been running since 1839 (182) years is always celebrated with the residents having a go on the sweepstake. This year was no exception as they had their own ‘Fun’ Grand National.
Husband and Wife ‘Jockeys’ Sam and Taylor Whiting started the afternoon off with a Race Game, Ladies Day and drinks from the Bar.
General Manager, Eleanor Wilson said: “The people who live and work here at Drummond Grange have really enjoyed today’s festivities. We’ve had everything from our staff dress up in fancy dress for the day to our very own Grand National with staff and residents and everyone has been really keen to get involved.”
Mother's Day
Residents enjoyed Home Baking and a drink as part of their Mother’s day celebrations. Everyone loved having a laugh and social time with fellow residents and staff. Our lovely Helen Mackenzie really enjoyed herself with a cup of tea and reminiscing about her family. consent has been given.
