Activities at Elgar Court Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Kerrie Perks

Activities Leader

Hello, My name is Kerrie and I provide the unique life enrichment for residents at Elgar Court.  I moved to Malvern 12 years ago to live with my fiance and we have two tortoises and a snake.  I love to play Dungeons and Dragons with my friends.  I am very 'outdoorsy' and used to ride horses and compete nationally in athletics, specialising in track and field for Redditch and Bromsgrove athletics club.  In my spare time, I love being in the kitchen and making treats for my family.

‘Buddy Bench’ Prize for Local School

This week, Elgar Court Care Home in Malvern, presented Malvern Parish School with a ‘Buddy Bench’, which was won by the children in a competition they ran this year.

Elgar Court Care Home- invited local schools to think up names for the three communities in their new home. The lucky winners were Malvern Parish School coming up with the winning names;

- Ground floor – Peachfield Community

- First Floor - Foley Community

- Second Floor – Beacon Community

When Malvern Parish School first heard they won the competition, they were delighted, and as it was a whole school effort, the children asked for a donation towards a new ‘Buddy Bench’ for the playground and Elgar Court were happy to oblige for such a good cause. Pupils told us the Buddy Bench is where children can sit if they are feeling lonely and want someone to come and play with them. How lovely and kind the children are!

Sarah Cadwallader, General Manager at Elgar Court Said, ‘We are all winners here! Not only have the children come up with perfectly suited names for our home’s three communities, but we are really looking forward to the initiatives we will be planning with our residents and school children over the next year’.

National Carers Week

This is national Carers Week, and Barchester Care homes support and recognise the huge contribution unpaid carers make in Malvern and across Worcestershire.

We all value the role carers play, and today we joined the Age UK Dementia Carers meeting in Worcester to support the work they do in raising awareness of caring and, making sure dementia carers are able to access the information and support they need.

Join us at the next meeting in Malvern on 21st June at the Church of the Ascension (11am-1pm) and find out how we can help you.

There's a Buzz About Town!

It was World Bee day on 20 May, and today we went to Madresfield Early Years Centre to see how the children have been learning about bees and wildlife.

We enjoyed seeing all of the wonderful insect activities they had been taking part in, and saw the fabulous bee art they had made in the Willow garden.

Bees are so important to the health of our planet and they love sunflowers! So we gave each child a small packet of sunflower seeds to grow at home. We cannot wait to see the pictures the children send in showing how tall the sunflowers grow!

Thank you for letting us join you this morning, and see you all soon for more fun activities with Elgar Court Care Home.
