Activities at Elgar Court Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Kerrie Perks

Activities Leader

Hello, My name is Kerrie and I provide the unique life enrichment for residents at Elgar Court.  I moved to Malvern 12 years ago to live with my fiance and we have two tortoises and a snake.  I love to play Dungeons and Dragons with my friends.  I am very 'outdoorsy' and used to ride horses and compete nationally in athletics, specialising in track and field for Redditch and Bromsgrove athletics club.  In my spare time, I love being in the kitchen and making treats for my family.

The sun was shining and the buzz of the Tewkesbury Big Weekend was in full flow, with many visitors coming to our stall who were interested in the life we offer at a Barchester residential home.

Worcester Dementia Action Alliance

This is Dementia Action Week 15 – 21 May.

Today we were invited by Age UK to be part of the Worcester Dementia Action Alliance event at the Guild Hall in Worcester.

The Mayor of Worcester Cllr Adrian Gregson opened the event with Councillor Lynn Denham, who is the Chair of the Friends of Fort Royal Park and Worcester Dementia Action Alliance. Councillor Denham is pictured here with Sarah Cadwallader, General Manager from Elgar Court in Malvern, being shown a robotic cat and one of our many sensory dementia support tools. Dementia research suggests these can help certain symptoms of dementia, such as anxiety, agitation, loneliness, and depression

Thank you to everyone we met today who were interested in our dementia expertise and the resident care we provide: From early diagnosis to permanent support, and how our person-centred care keeps each resident living with dementia, engaged and living life to the fullest.

Why not contact us to find out how we can support your loved ones with respite stays and permanent support? Telephone Elgar Court, Malvern: 01684 880221

Celebrating International Nurses Day

Today we have been celebrating International Nurses day with our nursing heroes in around Malvern.

Sarah Cadwallader, our General Manager and Naomi Steward the Home Services Advisor, visited a number of our amazing and compassionate nurses in our community, to give out a ‘Take a Break’ bag of goodies as a token of our appreciation.  Goodies included a drinks bottle to keep hydrated, soft drinks, snack bars, sweets, personal care items and stationary.

Our first visit was to the Malvern Health Centre at Prospect View, meeting some of the wonderful nursing team who were delighted with our refreshments and gifts.  Next stop was the Malvern Community hospital team as we are so very lucky to have a hospital in our town that provides community hospital nursing care, and urgent emergency support for our towns folk.  And lastly, the District nurses at Rowan House, who support people living in their own homes with temporary and long term nursing care.

THANK YOU to all of you and nurses in Malvern, for your extraordinary dedication, continual hard work and for always giving a kind smile and love to our community.  Happy International Nurses day from Elgar Court to YOU!

God Save the King

Cheers! We are rejoicing the King’s Coronation at Elgar Court, and although we may not be fully open yet, we all celebrated early with a glass of fizz (it was sparkling elderflower).

We cannot wait to see everyone’s posts on their own unique way of celebrating this historic event. Don’t forget to tag us in on Facebook pages with #elgarcourt to be selected for an afternoon Cream Tea and Prosecco!

Best wishes to all and God Save the King!

Anyone for Bowls?

At Elgar Court, we promise that all of our residents get the opportunity to continue their hobbies and interests when they move in with us, and even try new activities!

This week, we visited Manor Park Sports Club to see the range of sports our residents could enjoy.  Hazel Bennett was on hand in the Bowls club to tell us all about the Bowls Club and the taster sessions our residents can try. They currently have four top England Bowls players in their club too! Thank you Hazel and we hope to see you soon with our residents.

The Admiral Cafe Coronation Celebrations

The Coronation Celebrations were underway today when I went to the monthly Admiral's Cafe at Colwall Village Hall.  This monthly café is run by volunteers who have all been trained to help people with dementia, and offers free support, advice and refreshment to people living with dementia and their carers.   Led today by Mike and Marion Paulson (pictured) and the team, they welcomed regular and new guests for their King’s Coronation party with music, food and refreshments, competitions and prizes.

Dementia Action week is 15-21 May 2023, and Elgar Court will be involved in a number of local and regional events to highlight the support available to those affected with this condition.
