Activities at Elm Bank Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Tina Prosho

Activities Coordinator

Hello. I am Tina, I have been a team member at Elm Bank since 2023 and began my career as a Team Leader and was upskilled to Head of Care before moving my role to become Activities Coordinator.

I am passionate individual with vibrant character and my goal is all about life enriching activities that enhance the lives of our residents. I ensure that the entertainment is stimulating and is inclusive of all our residents no matter their challenges. It is important to me that our weekly calendar offers rich experiences with music from live entertainers, visits to various locations outside the home of interest, as well as arts and crafts tailored to individual abilities. We are a pet friendly home and fully support the benefits animal therapy can bring to the lives of our residents and welcome animals of all kinds to the home on a regular basis.

Getting to know our residents better is so important to me, and through regular family and friends’ meetings we can gain a greater understanding of their loved ones' interests and life prior to joining Elm Bank that will make for a richer activities program to be developed. I look forward to getting to know you, and your loved ones.

We are always open to new ideas. If you would like to get involved in any of our Life Enrichment activities or have a skill, or project you'd like to share with our residents, please click here to contact me direct. New entertainers and community links are always welcome.

Burns' Celebrations

Traditional Scottish ‘Piper’ hit the high notes yesterday opening our Burns Night Supper. The tune of bagpipes rang through the home as the fun continued well into the night.

Staff and residents at the home were in awe of professional Scottish piper; Mark McLaughlan as his 27 years’ experience shone through when he lead the home’s time-honoured address to the ‘Great chieftain O’ the pudding race’ – the haggis.

General Manager, Marvellous Bindura, at Elm Bank, thought Mark’s piobaireachd was the perfect accompaniment to an evening steeped in age-old tradition in celebration of the poet Robert Burn’s.

She said: “Burns Night is always a fantastic event at Elm Bank, it’s so important to continue these traditions particularly as many of our residents have connections to Corby known locally as "little Scotland".

Our residents enjoyed a hearty meal of Scotch broth, Haggis with neeps and tatties all prepared by our stellar senior head chef; Sharntelle Hall.”

Shelia, resident of Elm Bank said: “I love Scotland and the sound of the bagpipes, it brought back so many fond memories". Resident Betty remarked “The piper even took requests, the gentlemen really enjoyed singing along - it was simply amazing!”

International Flower Day

Residents at Elm Bank celebrated International Flower Day which took place on January 19th with floral displays of colour throughout the home. The local Morrison’s store Community Champion; Julia gifted an abundance of fresh flowers. In total the group created 21 spectacular displays that now adorn the home, brightening every corner with fragrant blooms.

Marvellous Bindura, General Manager at Elm Bank said: “The wonderful act of kindness from Morrisons Kettering Community achieved its goal of making our residents smile. They adored handling the flowers and the sense of achievement in creating their beautiful displays was clearly evident.”

Tailored Activities

Spending quality time with our residents on a one to one basis benefits all involved, in different ways. By asking what they like to do, or finding out what their interests were before moving into our home can help us tailor future activities to their physical and emotional needs.

Watching memories come flooding back during these sessions and how they spark new conversations can be so rewarding. The smiles on our residents' faces whilst reminiscing tell their own beautiful story.

Sing-A-Long with Steve!

We all love being entertained and our residents simply adore singing sensation; Steve Carmel performing musical hits from 50s and 60s Rock n’ Roll to Country classics. Each rendition got their feet moving and singing along to their favourites! What a wonderful afternoon we all had – Thank you Steve, see you again in March!
