Activities at Fairview House Care Home

Our Activities Coordinators create a weekly planner that consists of a variety of activities, which caters to all residents' needs as best as possible. The most popular activities are bingo, which we host twice a week, flower arranging and weekly visits from Vinnie our pet therapy dog. Residents also enjoy minibus trips in the nicer weather and we attend a concert every month. We are also involved in the Council Well-being Team, which keeps us up-to date with upcoming events within the community and provides interesting ideas for activities we can try in the home.

Throughout the year, we host various special events, including themed open days and summer and winter fetes that people in our local communities are welcome to join us for. We also have monthly church services with Rev. Ann from Danestone Congregational Church, which is open to loved ones as well.

Life at Fairview House Care Home

,

Cake competition entry

Throughout December, Residents have been busy counting down to Christmas with their busy life enrichment programme filled with fun-filled festive activities.

We have been busy making festive decorations to display around our home and making our Christmas cakes, starting them early so we could ‘feed’ them with brandy or sherry and leaving plenty of time for them to mature before decorating and entering into Barchester’s annual Christmas cake competition.

As we made our cakes, it was lovely to hear everyone sharing their memories of Christmases past, the traditions they enjoyed and what Christmas has meant to them.

Bewitching tricks and spooky treats

Barchester’s Fairview care home, in Aberdeen was a den of ghoulish activity as the home’s spooky Halloween afternoon got in to full swing.

Residents and staff got in to the spirit of things with fancy dress competition and prizes for best costume, decorated spooky biscuits and cupcakes prepared by the homes chef, Halloween fair and games. It was a fun filled day for everyone!

'Tattie' holiday pen-pals

Children at Danestone primary school kindly sent us some cards last week to let us know that they are thinking about us. We decided to respond and relate our cards to the fact that it’s currently the (Tattie) “October Holidays”. This is what they used to get called because when people were off from school they would help their families go tattie picking during this season.  Our residents wrote inside the cards what they used to get up to during their time off.

Birthday celebrations

Resident, Harold celebrated his 80th birthday in style surrounded by staff and friends in the home where he was presented with a specially prepared birthday cake.  The birthday boy also enjoyed a visit by his wife who also stays at the home along with his family, Harold had a wonderful day.

Residents enjoy a pamper

Residents of Fairview enjoyed a relaxing pamper morning. The home transformed their lounge into a socially distant spa where residents were able to fully relaxed with some lovely calming music playing in the background. Life enrichment provided hand massages and mini spa treatments adhering to covid19 guidelines and wearing of full PPE.

Home joins Aberdeen Scarecrow trail

Fairview activities coordinator, Cassie created a painted window display in the main lounge for residents and members of the local community to enjoy. It can also be seen from outside the home. The window display was done as part of the Aberdeen Scarecrow Trail which has brought much local fun for the children in Aberdeen to find scarecrow art when they are out walking.

We have also started decorating pumpkins in preparation for Halloween.
