Activities at Florence Court Care Home
Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.
Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.
Jessica Duery
I have been working in the Care Sector for 5 years and started out as a Domestic and Laundry Assistant. I decided that I wanted to progress my career in an activities capacity, so I became an activities provider, then progressed to an Activities Co-Ordinator which I did for 2 years prior to joining the team at Florence Court.
I have a real passion for Activities and get a great deal of pleasure in enriching the residents' lives through meaningful activities. I love getting to know the residents and spending time with them finding out what they love to do. Every day is very different and rewarding.
I am currently studying to advance my knowledge and career path. I am very grateful for the support Barchester gives to enable me to do this.
When I'm not at work, I love to travel and visit new places. I also enjoy the time I spend with my cocker spaniel, Cooper.
Activities and Events Partnerships
As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies
Life at Florence Court Care Home
Role Reversal Day
We held a role reversal day where residents became staff and staff became residents for the day! Residents stepped into the shoes of our staff by answering telephone calls, running the activities, doing house keeping tasks and even becoming the General Manager. A video was made and posted on social media demonstrating that they have what it takes to run the home!
This unique day bought laughter, learning and a whole lot of appreciation for our roles – Team work has never been such fun!
Baking Club
We rolled up our sleeves, sprinkled in some love and baked some utterly delicious Biscoff cupcakes!
Our residents had a wonderful time getting creative in the kitchen. From mixing in the ingredients to sharing traditional family recipes and of course taste testing ... but the smiles and laughter were the sweetest part of the day!
We arrange regular Baking Clubs within our beautiful home, this activity is enjoyed by residents across all our communities both Residential and our Memory Lane residents - individuals living with dementia. We select a theme and the produce is enjoyed by residents and staff!
Vibrotherapy for our residents.
Our residents were treated to Heated Vibrotherapy Massages with huge thanks to Gaston the Physiotherapist from the team at Prosalud Company.
The many benefits of this treatment were experienced by our residents with relaxed and happy smiles on their faces as their backs, feet and legs received the heated vibrations of the Vibrotherapy cushions. The physiotherapeutic treatments can aide fatigue, hip pain, sciatica, poor circulation, insomnia, swollen feet, asthma and muscle pain in addition to other ailments.
Some of our own team enjoyed the treatments and noticed the benefits immediately.
Santa Visits our Home!
We had a very special visitor to our Christmas Fayre ... Santa! He and his elf were the stars of the event (aka Abi, activities and Bob, carer)! Huge thanks to our maintenance and activities teams for the beautiful display inside and outside our home, they even created a grotto!
Christmas is such a special time in our home for our residents and their families and of course our teams. We so enjoy making our amazing home even more special at this time of year.
Daffodil Planting
We were very grateful to the Team at the Solent Hotel and Spa, Whiteley for very kindly donating two sacks of daffodil bulbs to us. They visited our home with tools in hand and assisted our residents , staff and family members planting them in our garden on a beautiful but wintery sunny morning.
We are all looking forward to the Spring when we will be able to appreciate the fruits of our labour. Our garden will be full of Spring colour in our borders, raised patio beds and garden pots.
Donkey Therapy
We had a very special visit from "Charlie" the donkey with Kelly from Kelly's Donkeys. Our residents and our staff loved meeting "Charlie" and feeding him treats of carrots and apples.
Animal therapy has incredible benefits including improving mood, reducing stress and sparking wonderful memories. Seeing the smiles on our residents' faces reminded us of the magic of these experiences! Residents, staff and visitors all loved meeting "Charlie", he bought such joy to our home!
