Activities at Florence Court Care Home
Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.
Jessica Duery
I have been working in the Care Sector for 5 years and started out as a Domestic and Laundry Assistant. I decided that I wanted to progress my career in an Activities capacity so became an activities provider then progressed to an Activities Co-Ordinator which I did for 2 years prior to joining the team at Florence Court . I have a real passion for Activities and get a great deal of pleasure in enriching the residents life's through meaningful activities. I love getting to know the residents and spending time with them finding out what they love to do. Every day is very different and rewarding.

Life at Florence Court Care Home
This is your life – Snow White
We enjoyed a very special performance of This is your life - Snow White version, performed by our wonderful staff and resident ambassador Eddie! Eddie wrote this play himself and when asked about activities in our resident meeting a few months ago he expressed interest in directing a staff play. Together, Eddie and the activities team, organised this performance for our residents acted out by himself our amazing staff. Our residents loved watching the production, with lots of laughter throughout. A massive well done to Eddie and all the staff involved in this wonderful special rendition of the classic show - This is your life
Breast Cancer Awareness Day
Staff and residents donned their best pink outfit and had a lovely afternoon together in honour of breast cancer awareness day! We loved singing and dancing to a wonderful performance from Amanda Parsons - Songbird Entertainments and enjoyed some delicious themed cupcakes made by our wonderful kitchen team. Having raising awareness days helps provide emotional support and solidarity to those who have expe.rienced it personally or through loved ones.
Alzheimer’s Society charity walk
Here at Florence Court, our residents had an incredibly special day as we took part in the Portsmouth Alzheimer’s society Memory walk! It was truly inspiring to see our residents, staff, and families come together to walk in solidarity for such an important cause. Each step we took, symbolized our commitment to providing the best care and resources for those living with dementia.
Because of everyone’s amazing generosity, we were able to raise over £300 for the Alzheimer’s society.
Thank you to everyone who donated and supported us, our residents are all very proud of their achievement.
Cocktails and Quiz
Here at Florence Court we donned our thinking caps and had a lovely afternoon in the garden doing a group quiz. Our residents loved getting together for this, enjoying the beautiful September sun and having a delicious glass of Pimms/fruity cocktail. We all had a wonderful time and got our brains engaged with some general knowledge.
Arts and crafts
Recently our residents enjoyed getting creative doing some decoupage. We made some beautiful letters that spell out our home name and look wonderful in our reception area. Our art sessions are always relaxing for our residents and boosts their confidence and self-esteem by offering a feeling of independence and accomplishment. We made a lot of mess with the glue but had a lot of fun doing it and can’t wait to finish it off at our next art session.
Sailing Trip
“ We teamed up with sister home Snowdrop Place Care Home - Barchester Healthcare and took our residents with a couple of theirs on a boat trip with Wetwheels Hamble. The trip went along the River Hamble and then over to Cowes where we stopped for a spot of lunch. Our residents had a wonderful time and we even got to have a go at driving the boat which was definitely a highlight for Eddie who spent a lot of his career in the Navy. We’re very grateful to Wet Wheels, we had such a wonderful day making memories.”
