Activities at Florence Court Care Home
Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.
Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Jessica Duery
I have been working in the Care Sector for 5 years and started out as a Domestic and Laundry Assistant. I decided that I wanted to progress my career in an activities capacity, so I became an activities provider, then progressed to an Activities Co-Ordinator which I did for 2 years prior to joining the team at Florence Court.
I have a real passion for Activities and get a great deal of pleasure in enriching the residents' lives through meaningful activities. I love getting to know the residents and spending time with them finding out what they love to do. Every day is very different and rewarding.
I am currently studying to advance my knowledge and career path. I am very grateful for the support Barchester gives to enable me to do this.
When I'm not at work, I love to travel and visit new places. I also enjoy the time I spend with my cocker spaniel, Cooper.
Activities and Events Partnerships
As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies
Life at Florence Court Care Home

Grandparent's Day at Wets Hill Park School
Yesterday we had the honour of being invited to West Hill Park School Grandparents tea. Our residents were over the moon to be able to join them and Mona was especially proud to have got a mention from Lilly in their ‘why I love my grandparents’ video. Mona and Lilly have formed a great bond through the monthly visits we do with the school over the past year, each thoroughly looking forward to their visits! Proving just how great these inter-generational activities are. The children even gave us all little sunflower sprouts they had planted to take back and grow at Florence court. It was a very wholesome afternoon enjoyed by all.

200 Years of Cadbury's
We had a wonderful time joining Cadbury for an interactive virtual talk on their fascinating 200 year history.
Our residents learnt interesting facts about the chocolate giant, shared memories and reminisced about their favourite sweets! Thanks to the generous support of Cadbury UK, we received a delightful surprise with this event - memory bar boxes filled with Daily Milk bars wrapped in designs reflecting Cadbury rich 200-year history. Everyone had a great time and especially loved the sweet treat

A trip to The Salt Café
What a glorious day to be out in the sunshine! Today we enjoyed a minibus trip to Salt Café in Portchester for tea and cake by the shore. Our residents loved being out in the sun and admiring the views of the marina and Portsmouth harbour. We’re excited to enjoy more outdoor cafes now the weather is better!

Art Therapy
Art therapy Yesterday we enjoyed a relaxing art session painting sunflowers. We like to include weekly art sessions in our activity schedule so that our residents have a chance to express their creative side and a lot of them have said they find it very therapeutic. Not to mention the wonderful creations they have afterwards which we have displayed in our Studio area.

A trip down memory lane to Milestones Museum
Today we took a trip down memory lane to the 1930/40s! Residents enjoyed a wonderful minibus trip to Milestones Museum; we had a great time walking through the Victorian themed cobble streets, admiring all the shop and old fashioned vehicles. Our residents loved immersing themselves in the past, reminiscing their past memories and we even got a ration book to get some sweets from the 1940s sweet shop. It was a wonderful afternoon enjoyed by all.

Nutrition and Hydration Week
At Florence Court, we have decided that once a month we will host a nutrition and hydration week for our residents to promote health and well-being. We started the week off strong with Milkshake Monday, prepared by our wonderful kitchen team. Poor hydration in the elderly can lead to risks of multiple health issues; the milkshakes were a great way of promoting fluid intake and they were delicious so our residents loved them!.
