Activities at Fordmill Care Home
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.
Julia Constandache
I’m Julia and I have been working at Fordmill since December 2016. I really enjoy art and studied Graphic Design & Illustration in Dundee. I love being with people and using my skills to improve their quality of life and bring a smile to their faces through crafts, games and all sorts of other activities.
I plan out the activities, either for groups or individuals, according to specific needs and interests. It’s a real joy to get to know residents and their loved ones and I’m grateful to Barchester for giving me the opportunity to work with them and bring some sunshine into the residents’ lives.

Life at Fordmill Care Home
Burns Night Capers at Fordmill
Fordmill care home prepared a traditional Burns Night Supper to the tune of bagpipes and capers continued well into the wee small hours! The celebrations also included a special performance from the dancers from St Cyrus School of dance to perform highland dances in the afternoon to the delight of Residents, relatives and friends of Fordmill.
Staff and residents at the home were involved in a number of activities watching the art of Scottish Country Dancing and the Ceilidh to mark the Scottish institution, including giving the time-honoured address to the ‘Great chieftain O’ the pudding’ race’ – the Haggis.
General Manager, Aileen Alberts at Fordmill, thought it was a perfect occasion to celebrate an evening steeped in age-old tradition as well as getting in a spot of Scotch whisky tasting, singing with a medley of Burns’ songs/ dessert making by concocting a Tipsy Laird for afters.
Aileen said: “Our residents have enjoyed a hearty meal of Scotch broth, Haggis with neeps and tatties all prepared by our chef.
Jumper Joy Raises Funds for Charity
Residents and staff at Fordmill got into the charitable spirit by wearing a Christmas jumper on Friday 14th December to raise funds for the Barchester Charitable Foundation.
Some of the residents have got very creative and decorated their own glitzy knitwear with tinsel, stars, baubles and snowflakes. One resident said: “It has been a very festive day and everybody looks fantastic. What a wonderful way to raise money for charity!”
Aileen Alberts General Manager, said: “Today has been a whole lot of fun with some of the most outlandish Christmas jumpers I have ever seen! This event has really showcased the creativity and fun-loving spirit of all our residents and staff. We are proud to take part in Christmas Jumper Day and show our support for Barchester Charitable Foundation.”
Scottish Care Awards Finalist
A member of staff from Fordmill care home in Montrose, recently made it through to the final stages of the Scottish Care Awards. The hopeful Christine Massie is Head of Maintenance at Fordmill in Montrose.
The prestigious Scottish care Awards were organised by Scottish Care. The awards aim to promote and recognise high standards in quality of care and life experience for people and their carers.
Honouring the Fallen
Residents of Fordmill are preparing to commemorate Remembrance Sunday on Sunday 10th November, and will be joining the rest of the United Kingdom in holding a two-minute silence at 11am.
As well as marking Remembrance Day by wearing poppies and watching the televised service, some residents will be taken to the local cenotaph to commemorate the members of the armed forces who have died in the line of duty.
In their memory, the home has created a display and placed it by the entrance. Aileen Alberts, General Manager, said: "It is very important that we keep the memories of those who fought alive and that we also think about those involved in conflicts around the world today.”
