Activities at Fordmill Care Home
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Julia Constandache
I’m Julia and I have been working at Fordmill since December 2016. I really enjoy art and studied Graphic Design & Illustration in Dundee. I love being with people and using my skills to improve their quality of life and bring a smile to their faces through crafts, games and all sorts of other activities.
I plan out the activities, either for groups or individuals, according to specific needs and interests. It’s a real joy to get to know residents and their loved ones and I’m grateful to Barchester for giving me the opportunity to work with them and bring some sunshine into the residents’ lives.
Activities and Events Partnerships
As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies
Life at Fordmill Care Home
70-years combined service at Fordmill
A 2nd Chef, Care Practitioner and Senior Carer at Fordmill have received a prestigious 30- and 20-Year Service Awards respectively in celebration of working at Barchester Healthcare for a combined 70-years.
Aileen Alberts, General Manager at Fordmill said: “It is very humbling to be celebrating these three ladies with their long service awards and we wish to thank them for all their dedication to the company and their hard work over the years. Our home has seen many changes and these ladies have stuck with us through thick and thin, we must be doing something right and here is too many more!”.
Rise and Get Active
Fordmill enjoyed a visit from Rise. Their aim is to help get people active and improve their wellbeing and fitness through a uniquely adapted sports’ programme. And boy did we have fun giving it a go.
The fun competitive nature and team working aspects also encouraged amusement and laughter between the residents, and as one resident said “it’s good to laugh, it keeps you young”. We couldn’t have put it better ourselves. The more the residents laughed, the harder they kept trying at their games. A great way to spend a morning. In
Back in the day, 80s style!
We all went back in time to the ‘decade of decadence’ the 1980’s where, over two days, residents were encouraged to reminisce. We had a 'Hey Mickey' workout to all the greatest hits to get everyone in the mood and encourage movement.
We then had a party, complete with neon, disco balls and Rubik’s cubes. Party food and games with some dancing in our discotheque had us all talking about the fashions of the decade, with shoulder pads a big discussion!
Residents decided we should visit other decades, working our way back in time as they really enjoyed the journey back in time. A fantastic time was had by all.
Virtual trip to Cornish Seal Sanctuary
A big thank you to the Cornish Seal Sanctuary for the fantastic live virtual event today!
Residents across our services loved seeing the seals up close and learning about the incredible work the sanctuary does to protect them and other wildlife in Cornwall as well.
Everyone truly enjoyed the experience.
Read all about it!
The library shelves are bulging at Fordmill where book worm residents were keen to listen to local crime author Chris Longmuir as she regaled them with her story of how she became a published author.
Staff and residents at Fordmill hosted the author with National Read a Book Day in mind and showed off their mobile library to Chris. Of course, they couldn’t let Chris go without signing a few copies to add to their collection also. Residents were also able to pick Chris’s brains with resident John Fraser asking “would you like your novels to be made into a television series?”
Message in a Bottle Craft
To mark the end of the summer months, residents reminisced with an art project to celebrate their local seaside town by making a Message in A Bottle. Residents loved getting their hands in the sand and being creative with shells. They all took the time to find those special words that they wanted in their messages. Beach visits throughout childhood were quite common in Montrose and so, reminiscence about the best beach trips they’ve ever had whether local or not were discussed. This turned to much laughter and discussion about the feeling of sand in your toes which, like marmite, you either love or hate!
