Activities at Fountains Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Life at Fountains Care Home

Simple pleasures

At Fountains we understand how simple pleasures in life can bring such joy.

Getting to know our residents is crucial and our Deputy Manager, Sam, discovered that resident Colin’s favourite fast food was a KFC!

Without further ado Sam organised that Colin had a “finger licking good” KFC bucket for his lunch.

We think you’ll agree that smile says it all!

Dementia talk for community

Members of our community and family members enjoyed an informative talk by Deena Heaney, Dementia Care Specialist for Barchester Healthcare.

The event was a joint event with Fountains and Harper Fields care hosted the event.

The talk was so insightful for family members supporting loved ones living with dementia. Deena’s wealth of experience and passion for supporting people to live well with dementia was inspiring to hear and so beneficial for all those who attended.

We are very lucky to have such expertise within our Barchester Team. A huge thank you to Deena and all those that attended.

100 hours outside challenge

Fountains residents love getting outside for fresh air… That is why we include ‘Daily Garden Walks’ on our activities calendar.

Having fresh air and physical exercise is so important to us all, our residents look forward to stepping out into the sunshine and enjoying the beautiful autumnal weather.

Remembrance Sunday

Fountains residents and staff enjoyed a week of activities to commemorate Armistice day and Remembrance Sunday.

From Art Workshops, to Musical Memories Sessions and religious services too, there was something for everyone to enjoy.

We began with a craft club to create our own Poppy Display in our reception area.

Using tissue paper to create the perfect poppy shape, it was a lovely opportunity for our residents to come together, be creative and make a beautiful wall of reflection for everyone to use.

We continued with the crafts and took part in a Pottery Painting Workshop with Sue Cox.

Our residents enjoyed creating their own poppy pottery plates using a variety of colourful paints.

I think we can all agree the finished designs were absolutely beautiful.

Later in the week our residents enjoyed a musical memories session with our entertainer Libby.

Libby provides fantastic sessions filled with lots of singing, dancing and plenty of reminisce too.

Our residents were delighted to come together for a Remembrance Day Church Service with Dianne from Solihull Methodist Church.

Dianne hosted a wonderful service full of prayer and reflection.

Our residents were honoured to join in the 2 minute silence together to remember those that gave their lives for their country.

It was a week full of great activities and our residents were thrilled to take part in.

Armistice Day

To commemorate Armistice Day, Fountains’ residents were delighted to welcome Armed Services Veteran Derek Tilton MBE to our home for a Remembrance Day themed talk.

Derek discussed his experiences as an RAF pilot, from receiving his pilot’s licence as a young man, to his adventures flying over Singapore and Malaysia. It was an honour to hear his stories.

He also shared his medals with our residents. For some it was their first opportunity to see war medals up close. All of our residents were in awe of Derek for his hard work and determination.

Derek also gave our residents the opportunity to share their own service experiences. He was keen to hear their stories, some similar and some very different. It was a hugely interesting discussion.

A big ‘Thank You’ to Derek for making our Armistice Day events so memorable.

World Kindness Day 2021

Today marks ‘World Kindness Day’ - a day to celebrate all of the kind acts that happen around the world.

Here at Fountains, we wanted to use this as an opportunity to share a heart warming story from one of our residents Margaret.

Margaret has been knitting for over 60 years and loves to spend time relaxing in her armchair knitting beautiful jumpers, cardigans and toys too.

Margaret decided that she would like to use her knitting to bring joy to others.

Margaret offered to knit 20 hats for the newborn babies at George Elliot Hospital following a stay in their care.

Margaret embraced the challenge and has spent the last few weeks knitting 20 beautiful hats for the babies.

We wanted to take the opportunity to share this act of kindness with our community and hopefully inspire others to do the same.

We would also like to say a big ‘well done’ to Margaret. It is gestures like this that make our world a happier place.

Happy Kindness Day everyone! from all of us at Fountains Care Home.
