Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Hi, my name is Kay and I’m the Activities Lead for all things ‘Life Enrichment’ at Glebefields care home in Drayton, Banbury.
Throughout my career within the care industry, I have thrived o the many challenges presented and developed immense satisfaction through enabling others. As an activities coordinator, I act with integrity and always ensure that I place residents at the heart of what I do. I work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team to help create and maintain a robust service. I am committed to my personal and professional development which aligns Health and Social Care core values, providing diversity, empowerment, equality and independence for all residents.

Life at Glebefields Care Home
Phase 1 Nearing Completion
We are thrilled to be able to update you on our exciting refurbishment plans for Glebefields Care Home, Banbury. The work started on 17th May, 2021, and saw us bring about improvements to the first and second floors of the home. These works are now reaching completion bringing the end of Phase 1 of the refurbishment. We thought you might like to see some before and after images; we can't wait to see the final result; once the new furniture packs, lighting, ornaments and wall art is all in place and of course, when our residents are all upstairs and beginning to enjoy their new surroundings.
During the second week of October these floors will be ready for our residents and staff to inhabit, and for us to hand over the ground floor to the contractors to begin Phase 2. Our intention at this stage will be to move all residents to their newly allocated ‘temporary’ rooms, along with current furniture, and individual belongings. The manager, admin and staff offices will also be relocated to the upper floors.
Access will be via a walkway, constructed to the rear of the home as the ground floors are under development. We will continue to offer pre-booked bedroom and outdoor visits as normal. We are also now in a position to show prospective residents around the newly designed upper floors, as we continue to offer respite stays and are welcoming deposits for these amazing rooms with a view!
We'll post more images as the full refurbishment progresses, these really are just a few glimpses of the Windsor Scheme coming together... the best is yet to come!

Harvest Festival Display
Our residents and staff had fun shaping and painting pottery vegetables to create the most realistic of Harvest Festival basket in celebration of home grown produce.
We send a big ‘thank you’ to Kay our activities lead for setting up the arts & craft session and making the harvest loaf - well done everyone, it all looks good enough to eat (for display purposes only!).
We spent time together learning all about ‘The History of Harvest’ and look forward to giving thanks to all farmers across the land at today’s Glebefields Harvest Festival.
International Day of Sign Languages
The International Day of Sign Languages is celebrated every year on 23rd September to raise awareness about the usage of sign language and help those who have impaired hearings to be less conscious of them while expressing their thoughts in sign language.
Almost all deaf people across the world rely on sign language to communicate with their peers and loved ones, making it their only mode of physical conversation. Did you know that 1 in 5 adults in the UK are deaf or have hearing loss?
Our residents have been learning about the different signs and the history behind this amazing language. They created a notice board full of facts and tried communicating with each other to convey their feelings.
Alvar signed his name, a skill he learnt when he was a young lad, Bert decided to ‘send love’ and Frank signed ‘hello’ to everyone.

Flower Arranging for all the Senses
The Glebefields team work hard to ensure our activities program offers inclusivity and open to all abilities. Handling the various florals during Kay’s flower arranging session is a full sensory experience, that fills hearts and minds with fragrance and happy memories, all of which help relieve anxiety.
The group really immersed themselves in the process; selecting by colour, shape and texture to create truly beautiful displays. We thank everyone for their participation, our communal areas look and smell amazing!
Macmillan Coffee Morning
What a wonderful day! We'd like to send a massive thank you to everyone who came to our pop up coffee shop at the beautiful Drayton Village Hall for Macmillan Cancer Support.
There were a variety of hot and cold drinks available and scrumptious cakes to eat in or takeaway, helping us to raise funds for this amazing charity. #macmillancoffeemorning
Happy 90th Birthday 'Bert'
On 15th September, 2021 at Glebefields care home in the picturesque Oxfordshire village of Drayton near Banbury we celebrated a rather big birthday, Albert (Bert) Rowan turned 90!
It was all go from the moment he woke up, with cards and presents to open, and a party organised in his honour. Staff and his Glebefields friends sang happy birthday as Nurse Benazir gave Bert his favourite fresh cream strawberry Victoria sponge candled cake to make a wish.
Bert is such a character, loved by everyone. He was born in Kilburn London and, before the war moved to live with his auntie in Dollis Hill, West London. Bert worked as an electrician designer and created cameras. His favourite tipple is Southern Comfort and he enjoys listening to modern jazz and would like to visit Spain and Florida.
As a lifelong Brentford Football Club supporter, Bert was absolutely thrilled earlier this month to receive an early birthday present from our activities coordinator; Kay. She managed to get him a copy of the 14th August game programme’ Brentford V Arsenal which Brentford won 2-0!
Bert has 5 children; 3 boys, 2 girls who live all over England, he has 9 grandchildren with a great grandchild on the way!
Nisha Shaji, General Manager at Glebefields said: “We’re delighted to be part of Bert’s birthday celebrations, he’s a wonderful gentleman and such a popular resident who always has an interesting tale to tell!”
