Activities at Hafan-Y-Coed Care Home
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Marie Spires
I'm Marie, the lead activities coordinator for Hafan Y Coed. I have been the activities coordinator for nearly three years and am passionate about encouraging the wellbeing of our residents. Ensuring all abilities are catered for in a bespoke schedule is paramount to their individual wellbeing needs. I am joined by Clare and Sue who also help to create a life enrichment program suitable for all communities.
Activities and Events Partnerships
As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies
Life at Hafan-Y-Coed Care Home

St. David's Day
We enjoyed a full Welsh day’s activity to mark St David’s day. Firstly residents enjoyed a mini bus outing to our local Foothold charity, where residents enjoyed some Welsh themed cooking with local school. We made Cawl, a traditional Welsh Stew. We enjoyed peeling and preparing the ingredients and then had the opportunity to eat our creations. In the afternoon we welcomed local Coedcae School who performed a Welsh song performance where residents sang along and enjoyed seeing children dressed in their traditional Welsh attire.

Happy Mothers Day
We enjoyed a day full of love today with an afternoon vintage tea with all the bubbles and cakes you could wish for. Mum’s and their children had the chance to have a photo printed in our photo booth!

Swansea oh Swansea…
We were invited to attend the new inclusion room at Swansea City stadium to watch the football. We even made an appearance on the T.V which can be seen on our Facebook page! The gents had a fabulous day out even though the Swans lost on this occasion! We can’t wait to attend again!

Red Nose Day
We raised a fantastic £682 for Comic relief by hosting a full week of challenges in our “I’m a Celebrity Get me out of here" theme.
One challenge was to row remotely from Oxford to Cambridge a staggering 104,000 metres! Residents also helped by taking part in a get the star out of the foods in a hidden box! Management and staff took part in a (not very nice) trick or treat, bush tucker eating challenge, while others decided the Ice-bucket challenge or an ice bath!!

Intergenerational School & Nursey Visits
We have been joined for the last six months by children from Ysgol Y Strade for our intergenerational project. The benefits this brings both generations is evident to see in the images. We also recently enjoyed a visit from local Serendipity Nursery, where the little ones joined us for a baking morning. The residents look forward to our Thursday get together.
