Activities at Hafan-Y-Coed Care Home
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Life at Hafan-Y-Coed Care Home
Community Bingo Evening
What fun we had hosting our first community bingo evening. We invited the community to join our residents in an all ability bingo session. We had many hampers for all ages to win and there was a chance for everyone to play and get involved. We raised money for our residents fund which will go towards Christmas Arts and Crafts for all to enjoy. A huge thank you to all who donated prizes and to those who took part. We can’t wait for our next themed evening!
Macmillan Coffee Morning
Today we hosted our own Macmillan Coffee Morning to raise money for this amazing charity.
Our kitchen assistant, Barry, pulled out all the stop’s to make the most fabulous cakes for all to enjoy. Others opted for the slightly easier challenge of wearing PJs to work and paying £1 For the luxury of not getting dressed this morning .
In total we raised a phenomenal £228 which will help make that little Bit of difference. Thank you to all who attended
Wild West Party
We hosted a community themed event with a ‘Wild Wild West’ theme. Residents, families and staff all soaked up the atmosphere of the day and got In to the spirit with fancy dress fun. We had our very own Hafan Y Coed saloon bar, played Piñata, enjoyed our Ice-cream van, Burger van, sweet stalls, games, raffle and bouncy castle. We were entertained the weekend with a host of different choirs who also got in to the theme of the day with fancy dress. A great day was had by all and the sun decided to play ball and come out too!
Swansea Bus Museum
After one of our resident’s meetings, it was discussed about what places we would like to visit for a trip. A few of our gents were particularly interested in going to the Swansea Bus museum. In particular Edward who has collected transport memorabilia over the years. Edward has an album in his bedroom of all the different buses over the years so it was of great interest to him to see them up and close. We were even treated to a bus tour around the city on an old red double decker, which just happened to be from Llanelli. The gents reminisced about the buses they remembered and what route they used to take. There was more than just buses on offer, there was an array of different vehicles from old police cars to ambulances. Edward said “I thoroughly enjoyed the day, it was a lovely chance and we all had a good laugh on the bus journey”
Trip to National Wool Museum
One of our ladies, ‘Norma’ has been a keen knitter and has quilted many throws over the years. She is very talented. She had an interest to visit the National Wool Museum and we made her wish come true. We explored the museum and looked at the history of wool making in wales. We were shown the process of how to make the wool and all had a go on the machinery. Norma said what an amazing day she had and said it was absolutely fabulous. Norma talked about the day for weeks and also liked her gift of ‘Woolly’ the sheep to bring home.
Wills Petting Farm
The love our residents have for a variety of different animals is evident in the images. We welcomed ‘Wills Petting Farm’ this month, who kindly brought an array of animals to visit. From the Alpacas (A firm favourite) to the baby goats, tortoise, rabbits, mice and guinea pigs, there was something for everyone. We went around all the communities so everyone had the opportunity to hold or touch them.
