Activities at Hafan-Y-Coed Care Home
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Marie Spires
I'm Marie, the lead activities coordinator for Hafan Y Coed. I have been the activities coordinator for nearly three years and am passionate about encouraging the wellbeing of our residents. Ensuring all abilities are catered for in a bespoke schedule is paramount to their individual wellbeing needs. I am joined by Clare and Sue who also help to create a life enrichment program suitable for all communities.
Activities and Events Partnerships
As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies
Life at Hafan-Y-Coed Care Home

Celebrating 200 years of Cadbury
A huge thank you to Cadbury UK who are celebrating 200 years!! We'd like to thank you for the delicious treats you send our care home to sample and for supporting the Alzheimer’s charity in your mission.
Happy 200th birthday!
Now..... who doesn't love the taste of a Cadbury chocolate bar? We know our residents do! We saw a few ‘Willy Wonka’s’ around Hafan y Coed on this day whilst reminiscing about favourite chocolate bars ! Tudor said “I love chocolate, I could eat it all day.”

Whatever floats your boat!!
Residents took a boat trip along the river Tawe aboard the Copperjack in Swansea.
We sipped on refreshments whilst being educated about the history along the way. One of our residents was from Portsmouth and was keen to attend the trip. She said "I loved the trip and it was really interesting to learn the history of Swansea"
During the trip, resident’s reminisced about memories from times they had spent in Swansea and asked question’s along the way.
Everyone enjoyed fish and chips on the way home at famous chip shop Rossi’s and Luckily the weather held out to enjoy the perfect day.

Men’s Treatments in the Salon
We are always looking at way’s to promote our Gents well-being needs. Our men often enjoy a pamper session in the salon and this month enjoyed an afternoon treat of Hot Towel shaves, eyebrow trim’s, facial massage and nail trim. Whilst enjoying the experience they nibbled on homemade pasty’s provided by our kitchen team, washed down with a tipple of choice off the bar.
Mike from our memory lane community said “I’ve really enjoyed the shave and feel really smooth and fresh”
It’s also an opportunity for the men to get together and socialise, by discussing similar interests.

Monthly Pudding Club Goes Down A Treat
Over the last few months we have started our very own pudding club at Hafan Y Coed
The aim of introducing pudding club is to generate foot flow of new faces within the home, by inviting people to attend. The second aim is to generate conversation about memories of favourite recipe's cooked by our residents or their memories of what they enjoyed as a child. It brings back important memories to those living with Dementia with many reminiscing purposes.
So far we have seen the Scarlet's rugby young players attend, the local Mayor and of course our residents families. We have enjoyed various traditional recipe's from jam tarts and apple pie, to lemon cheesecakes and custard slices.
This month we got the kitchen team and staff involved to make a recipe each to be taste tested. There was not one crumb left by the end of the day! Danny said "That Apple and Blackberry pie kept me quiet for at least ten seconds" while Mal said "Can I have another piece of that lemon and ginger cheesecake".
We invite you all to attend next months pudding club in May. Keep your eye on the activities board or Facebook page for updates.

We 'Wore it Yellow' to Celebrate Easter Sunday
What better way to celebrate Easter Sunday, than having a family fun day for everyone to spend this special celebration together.
Our aim was to welcome in spring with vibrant colours of yellow by asking everyone to wear the colour. Yellow is such a happy colour and it certainly brightened up the home with the decoration's and attire. We welcomed Robbie Lee to perform a show stopping concert of songs from across the decades. Everyone was singing along or tapping their feet to the music. Many local stall holders attended to showcase their products and resident's and families enjoyed the shopping experience.
Everyone enjoyed the day, along with the many Easter eggs consumed by all.
Happy Easter to you all

Monthly outing
This month some of our residents have been treated to some fabulous mini bus outings. Our first trip was on the Gwilli Steam Train for afternoon tea. While the train route gave a fantastic scenic route of beautiful West Wales, everyone enjoyed a cream tea of scones with jam and cream and unlimited amounts of tea and coffee. Our Monthly visit went down a treat with a minibus full of excited residents who attended the cream tea with musical entertainment at local Selwyn Samuel Venue. You can see by everyone's faces what a lovely afternoon of music and dancing was had by all who went. Another trip, this time for our Gents, was enjoyed with a meal at the local Beefeater pub, where they chatted, enjoyed a lovely meal, washed down by a pint of bitter of course!!
