Activities at Hagley Place Care Home

Activities plays a big part in the care we deliver to residents; activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join in with activities and events as often as they can.

Mandy Hayward

Activities Coordinator

I have a long background in the care industry and love to incorporate the outdoors in my activities. This role is very special as it allows me the time to get to know our residents and their families in a deeply personal way.

Bikers Make a Dream Come True

Resident, Miranda, was a biker when she was younger and has been all over the world on two wheels.

Miranda recently decided to create a bucket list with the help of General Manager, Shann Thomas – and one of those things was to have a biker group come to Hagley with their bikes.

Michelle Jones, the Activities coordinator, contacted a local biker group and arranged for them to visit, in secret, to surprise her.

The Shropshire Biker Group, led by Julian Wild, all came to Hagley for tea and cakes and to meet Miranda.

They brought a t-shirt and hat with them and made her an honorary member of the group.

Miranda was overjoyed and so surprised that a few tears were shed, but all in the name of happiness.

Dementia Carer - Regional Award

Nurse and Deputy Manager, Hayley Simmonds, was named as the West Midland's 'Dementia Carer of the Year' in the 2017 Great British Care Awards for her hard work and dedication to our 10-60-06 programme on Memory Lane.

The awards ceremony was held in Birmingham with all the glitz and glam one would expect. The night was filled with excitement and, when presenting her with the award, the Judges said: "Hayley’s commitment to residents showed exceptional understanding of dementia and her compassion shone through!”

Well done, Hayley!

Fish Are Friends

Fish Are Friends

Pets at Home look after our fish tank and they recently visited to do a full overhaul on the system. They were really happy to chat with residents, and our Resident Ambassador, Miranda Cowen, was there to oversee the whole operation. There were tears as some of our fishy friends were taken away, but smiles as new friends were introduced.

Barchester's 25th Anniversary

The local Ludlow town councillors came over for a cooking demonstration from the Head Chef of Indian restaurant, ‘Golden Moments’. The Deputy Mayor of Ludlow cut the cake, which was made and decorated by Shann and James Thomas. There were Indian snacks and everyone got to sample the curry that the chef had made.

Employee of the Month - November

Employee of the Month - November

Our Employee of the Month for November is Bradley Lister.

A resident commented on Bradley, stating: "He takes me to the garden when I want to go and talks to me about interesting things, like herbs and flowers."

A staff member also commented, saying: "Bradley is the most gentle person I have ever seen, assisting residents with their nutrition.”
