Activities at Hawthorns Care Home
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Protech Company Donated to Hawthorns
In their latest series of ‘Pay It Forward’ donations, Protech have partnered with Peterlee-based Barchester Hawthorns Care Centre. One of the residents received a laptop, which would enable her to do the things that she loves.
Ian Murphy, COO at Protech, said: “The most rewarding part of my role is getting the opportunity to see how equipment we’ve donated is making a difference to people’s lives in our region. When we heard that Wendy was in desperate need of a laptop to enable her to do things that most of us take for granted like doing her online shopping, we knew we had to help. It’s fantastic to be able to help Wendy and I thoroughly hope she enjoys the use of her new laptop.”
Lynn Haswell from Hawthorns Care Centre, said: “Kind donations such as these make a huge difference to our residents. Wendy is extremely grateful to Protech for her laptop and is thrilled that it’s given her some of her independence back.”
Carnival Day
We had a lovely carnival day here at the home, which began with a speech of Terry Duffy, Mayor of Peterlee. We had the Booze Brothers, a great entertainers, which performed throughout the home.
Various stalls, mocktails & street food were offered to friends & relatives. The Greenhaugh Dancers, a local group of talented youngsters came in to entertain us and put on quite a show.
Ralph’s Angels, our resident choir sang at the event and a number of long service awards were handed out. A big congratulations to Jane Smith & Rachael Scott, divisional winners in this year's Barchester Care Awards.
