Activities at Hawthorns Care Home
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.
Read our brochure 'Life-enriching activities' for more information about life in our care homes.

Life at Hawthorns Care Home
National Public Health Week
Here at Hawthorns, we decided to take a stroll around our lovely area as part of National Public Health Week. This was a sponsored walk, with the money raised going towards the residents’ fund.
Open Day
We had a lovely Velentine's party on Tuesday afternoon. Clare's puppet also came to visit to entertain residents.
Christmas Cakes
Here at Hawthorns, we have been busy getting ready for Christmas! Residents have made their own Christmas cakes, which turned out well - all we need to do now is decorate them.
We also held a race night, where residents from across the home took part. Everyone had a lovely evening enjoying drinks, nibbles and betting on the nags!
Hawthorn's Outings
Folks at Hawthorns have been on several outings recently:
We went on a trip to see 'Tommy', our local sculpture at Seaham, our sponsored Memory Walk took place on Wednesday, where residents and staff went out in the sunshine for a stroll; and our Olympics Day was a huge success, with everyone who took part receiving a medal!
Birds of Prey
We recently had a visit from Birds of Prey. The birds visited residents in their rooms, and Frankie, Podge & George were the stars of the show.
Visit to South Shields
Seaham House residents took a trip to South Shields recently and had a great day out, despite the nip in the air.
