Activities at Highview House Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Aiden Wylie

Lead Activities Coordinator

Hello, my name is Aiden Wylie, and I am Head Activities Coordinator here at Highview House.  My job is to ensure a mentally and physically challenging and varied calendar of activities.  I want to involve all our residents in a warm and welcoming environment.

My career has been in education and I have lived in countries as diverse as Japan and Iraq, but in 2022 I came to Highview with the ambition of offering a range of activities, trips and entertainment which lead to lasting memories and experiences.

Local school support with jubilee bunting

The pupils from Muirtown Primary School, Inverness, did a fantastic job of making us some bunting to decorate our new marquee for the Platinum Jubilee.   Each part of the bunting was individually designed by each pupil and we took one of our residents, Julianne, down to the school to proudly receive the bunting.  There, she presented the pupils with some treats to enjoy as a thank you for all their hard work.  This is a great way to involve the local community in events at Highview.

Floral decorations with Ferndown

Our homes had a lovely time joining Sue and Nicole from Ferndown Florist for an intriguing flower arrangement workshop in celebration of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

Our residents enjoyed a wonderful virtual demonstration and got inspired to create their own flower posies for our Jubilee displays.  Our home will be specially decorated for the upcoming festivities. Stay tuned.

Jubilee celebrations

On Saturday we celebrated the Queens Platinum Jubilee with our very own garden party. It was an amazing day. It was so lovely to see our residents celebrating with their families and enjoying themselves. We had a few girls from Fraser School of Highland Dancing doing a presentation for us which was fantastic and the residents thoroughly enjoyed watching them perform. Some of our residents decided to stay indoors and watch the celebrations on television which they also enjoyed. They didn’t miss out though as the dancers went into the home and kindly did another dance routine for them

Star of Nimrod

We had a lovely time joining Graham Whitlock for an exciting virtual event to discuss his book ‘The Crystal Palace Chronicles: Star of Nimrod’.

Our residents were thrilled to find out more about the book and the fictional character Joe, who went on a rollercoaster adventure travelling back in time to the heyday of Victorian Crystal Palace.

Everyone had lots of fun during the virtual talk, as Graham took them on a clever and hilarious adventure. A great time was had by all.

Time for fun 41!

This afternoon some of our ladies enjoyed an afternoon at the Carlton Bingo, Inverness. Margaret used to go to the bingo all the time before she came to us here at Highview and today we got her back to play! She took a couple of her friends Annie and Julianne from Highview along with her and her Granddaughter joined her also. Julianne won 2 full houses and shared a 3rd full house with someone else.

Recreating memories

Resident, Christine and her husband Bill had been to see Phil Collins at his Final farewell Tour in Dubai back in early 2000's.  We recreated this for Christine and as you can see, she absolutely loved it.  She also had a little dance with some of the staff.  Recreating these memories is a lovely way to allow us to be a part of their past and their present as part of the homes resident centred activities.
