Activities at Highview House Care Home
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Aiden Wylie
Hello, my name is Aiden Wylie, and I am Head Activities Coordinator here at Highview House. My job is to ensure a mentally and physically challenging and varied calendar of activities. I want to involve all our residents in a warm and welcoming environment.
My career has been in education and I have lived in countries as diverse as Japan and Iraq, but in 2022 I came to Highview with the ambition of offering a range of activities, trips and entertainment which lead to lasting memories and experiences.
Activities and Events Partnerships
As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies
Life at Highview House Care Home

Cornish Seal Sanctuary
A big thank you to the Cornish Seal Sanctuary for the fantastic live virtual event today!
Residents across our services loved seeing the seals up close and learning about the incredible work the sanctuary does to protect them and other wildlife in Cornwall as well.
Everyone truly enjoyed the experience.

Residents Go Searching For Dolphins – Or Nessie?
Highview residents are fortunate to live within easy distance of both Loch Ness and the Moray Firth. One of our most popular excursions is a dolphin spotting tour of the Black Isle, taking in the magnificent views of the Moray Firth. While we can’t promise an appearance from the star attractions – the bottlenose dolphins who live locally! – we can at least guarantee an enjoyable day out.

Highview Residents Compete In The Olympic Games
While the Olympic games have been taking place in Paris, Highview residents have been competing in their own competitions as part of the 2024 Highland and Argyle & Bute Care Home Olympics.
The event, organised along with the Highland Council, NHS Highland and Scottish Care, sees residents, staff and family members at Highview compete individually and collectively against other homes.
With such keen participants, surely nobody can beat Highview?

Homes come together for 'Big Quiz'
Barchester care homes and hospitals nationwide linked together for a fantastic quiz in celebration of Barchester’s 100th live virtual event.
Residents engaged in a variety of questions ranging from historical trivia to visual puzzles and brainteasers.
Everyone who joined had a fantastic time and enjoyed some friendly competition.

Country Showdown on Memory Lane
Residents from across the home and their family members joined together on Memory Lane for the first annual Country Music Showdown. With a special guest performance by residents’ favourite Willie Doig on the stage designed for the occasion, staff dressed as cowboys and sheriffs and served a specially themed spread.
The Country Showdown is just one of many themed events happening at Highview House throughout the year.

Dementia Champion & Learner of the Year
Fergal Naughton and Mary Ellen McPhee have been crowned Dementia Champion of the Year and Learner of the Year respectively for the North East Division in the Barchester Care Awards and are both through to the national round of judging.
The Barchester Care Awards celebrate the staff who go the extra mile for the benefit of the 13,000 residents living in Barchester’s 261 care homes and private hospitals across the country. Categories range from ‘Registered Nurse of the Year’ and ‘Carer of the Year’ to ‘Dementia Care Champion’ and ‘Activities Coordinator of the Year’.
Over 5,000 nominations were received from homes and hospitals across the UK. All entries were a very high standard and both Feral and Mary Ellen are over the moon to have been named the winners for the North East Division beating hundreds of other nominees.
