Activities at Highview House Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Aiden Wylie

Lead Activities Coordinator

Hello, my name is Aiden Wylie, and I am Head Activities Coordinator here at Highview House.  My job is to ensure a mentally and physically challenging and varied calendar of activities.  I want to involve all our residents in a warm and welcoming environment.

My career has been in education and I have lived in countries as diverse as Japan and Iraq, but in 2022 I came to Highview with the ambition of offering a range of activities, trips and entertainment which lead to lasting memories and experiences.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Life at Highview House Care Home

Star of Made In Dagenham Entertains

Highview House residents were lucky to be able to play host to an afternoon of songs from throughout the years, as Margo Fraser visited us.    Margo is the star of Made In Dagenham, which has just finished a run at Eden Court Theatre.  Margo entertained the residents with a selection of songs from the fifties and sixties, and even a couple from a few decades before that!  Margo is the latest in a long line of performers who visit Highview to entertain and amuse.

Inverness Botanical Gardens

Many residents  at Highview are keen gardeners.  Fortunately, Highview is located just five minutes drive from the nationally renowned Inverness Botanical Gardens.   Always keen to see the gardens at their spring best, Carole, Margaret and Marjory took a trip on the minibus.   Margaret said her favourites were the candy-coloured tulips, while Carole enjoyed seeing the exotic plants and cacti.  Marjory, always with a smile on her face, said “I can’t imagine people who don’t enjoy flowers!”

Celebrating Cadbury's

Residents across our services had a wonderful time joining Cadbury for an interactive virtual talk on their fascinating 200-year history.

Residents joining learnt interesting facts about the chocolate giant, shared memories, and reminisced about their favourite sweet treats.

It was a heartwarming experience filled with laughter, nostalgia, and plenty of chocolatey goodness!

Classic Singalong With Hugh Dent

Music is a sure fire winner with residents and staff at Highview. Hugh Dent is just one of a whole host of performers we have on a regular basis. Songs in his set include Scottish classics, popular hits from throughout the ages and country and western standards. Residents are invited to sing along, make requests and even play instruments in the fully interactive shows.

Ross County Manager helps achieve Resident dream

Resident Arthur Patience, has had long been known as a huge Ross County fan, so staff at the home gave him the trip of a lifetime, while at the same time proving the old adage, it’s never too late.

Arthur has lived at  Highview  for a number of months now, and is beloved by staff and residents alike. Knowing his fondness for all things Ross County, activities staff at the home were delighted to be a part of making Arthur’s big day by taking him on a surprise tour of the stadium.  Only, his day out became even more of a dream adventure when, while watching the team train,  he was invited on to the training pitch by County interim manager Don Cowie.

Free-Wheeling Highview Residents Take To The Road

Highview Residents have an ongoing partnership with volunteers at Spokes For Folks in Inverness.  We are able to take rickshaw rides across town, whatever the weather.  Stopping off to feed the ducks, enjoy some ice-cream or meet with new friends from other care homes, every trip is an adventure.  Best of all, these rickshaws are wheelchair-suitable, allowing those with limited mobility to enjoy the freedom of the open road.
