Activities at Hurstwood View Care Home
Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.
Lisa Everson
I’m Lisa, Activities Coordinator here at Hurstwood View.
I’ve been working at Hurstwood View in varying departments since 2017, shortly after the birth of my second child. With a strong background in Marketing, events, and community engagement - Activities is a great fit for me! I love arranging events and making a difference to our residents’ day. I’ve never danced so much since working here, no day is ever the same, and we really do have so much fun!

Life at Hurstwood View Care Home
Residents Enter Bowling League
Today saw us take a trip to Freedom leisure Hailsham for the first instalment of our Barchester Bowling League, Southern Division.
We've teamed up with our friends from Mortain Place, Hazel Lodge, Wadhurst Manor and Sycamore. Taking 4 residents each, we competed against each other in a bid to get the first strike, and be the winning team!
Our Residents loved taking it in turns to bowl, and meet new friends from our sister homes. It was a great opportunity for us to catch up with our Activity Coordinator counterparts too.
We are so lucky to have so many Barchester Healthcare homes near us, thank you to everyone who joined us today. Keep an eye out here, we’ll be meeting up again soon!
Understanding Dementia Talk
Hurstwood View Care Home in Five Ashdown recently held a talk understanding dementia. It was an informative for people to learn more about what it is like living with dementia.
Barchester Healthcare’s specialist dementia nurse, Kayleigh Dale explained what daily life is like for someone living with dementia, how different types of dementia can affect the brain, ways to support them and answered questions the community had.
General Manager of the home, Kirsty said: “We know the importance of caring for someone living with dementia and want to be able to support as many people as we can. This is why we offer these free and informative talks for the local community to come and attend.”
Blooming marvellous flowers
This afternoon saw us getting crafty, as we made some beautiful floral picture displays.
Our Care Practitioner, Demi, hand crafted hundreds of card flowers, bees, greenery and dragonflies using her cricut machine.
We then spent time arranging these carefully onto our card, printed with a vase design.
Everything was attached via double sided squares, then framed and voila - our individual masterpieces were created!
Our Residents were so pleased with their creations, ready to be hung in their rooms.
Hurstwood View Helps Make Residents Dream Come True
Resident, Betty, at Laurel Bank Care Home wanted to be able to attend her granddaughter’s wedding in Lewes, however Betty does not live local. So, staff at Hurstwood View and Laurel Bank worked together to make her wish a reality proving the old adage, it’s never too late.
Betty was invited to come and stay at Hurstwood View for the weekend so she could attend her granddaughter’s wedding. Betty was joined by Jamie the homes Deputy Manager, and Tim their Head of Maintenance on her trip to Hurstwood View.
Once Betty arrived there, the team had the pleasure in meeting Betty, and learning all about this event that was so important to her. The day of the wedding came, and our Care team spent time ensuring Betty was happy with her outfit, hair and makeup.
Betty was able to enjoy the special day and had a wonderful time. The team at Hurstwood View were delighted to be a part of making her dream come true, as they knew how much it meant to her and her family.
Happy 12th Birthday To Us Here At Hurstwood View!
