Activities at Hurstwood View Care Home

Staff and Family at Hurstwood View care home in Five Ash Down came together for a celebration of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion where each and every one of us is respected, valued and applauded for our unique qualities.

In a celebration of diversity, staff members cooked a wide variety of different dishes for the everyone to sample from their home countries which included Romania, Jamaica, France, India, Ukraine & more.  

Kirsty Heaver, General Manager at Hurstwood View said: “At Hurstwood View, we all love to celebrate our diversity, we have so many different nationalities and cultures here that we wanted to spend some time together in recognition of that and to say everyone is welcome here and everyone is equal.  We all had a wonderful time celebrating our different cultures, our residents loved hearing about the staff’s different home countries and sampling all the delicious dishes.  It was such a fantastic event that I think we’re going to make it a regular celebration!”

We had such a wonderful day celebrating St George’s Day here in the home. For the morning we decorated our Café area ready for our St George’s lunchtime street party. Tables were lined up, bunting was hung, and after lots of work we were ready for our Residents to join us. We had a delicious lunch of prawn cocktail, melon, quiche, salad and new potatoes. Dessert consisted of fresh strawberries, meringue and cheesecake. Keith Hayman was live in our Café to entertain us in the afternoon, we had loads of fun and it was great to see so many people up dancing. A huge thank you to our wonderful kitchen team who catered, as well as our staff who work so hard to make these events possible.

We welcomed Lynne Vincent from The Stroke Association into the home last month. Lynne delivered the most interesting and informative talk on strokes, which included symptoms to look for, effects and what resources are available to stroke survivors.

Thank you Lynne for a wonderful presentation. We had a great turnout and some really interesting questions at the end. We hope everyone found the talk to be beneficial. For anyone who couldn’t make it, we still have lots of information to hand out. We will also be hosting a stroke information morning and bake sale in our Café on the 30th May. We’ve had a fantastic day with so many visitors! 

This morning we invited the community into the home for our Easter egg hunt. Everyone loved being out in our gardens, hunting for letters to make our mystery Easter word! 
Time was also spent in our Cafe creating Easter themed crafts, playing games and searching for more eggs, of course 

In the afternoon we were joined by musical performer, Keith Hayman. We enjoyed singing along and dancing. Our in house Chefs made delicious cakes and kept the Prossecco flowing. 
Residents got to choose a sweet Easter treat too. 

We had loads of fun this afternoon playing ‘Barchester’s Beat The Clock’. 
Each of the Barchester's home's gets a team together and we then compete against each other for the winning title. 

We were challenged with a selection of word and maths puzzles, followed by a conundrum at the end! 

It was surprisingly tricky, and the timescale added to the pressure! Things were certainly getting very competitive in the Cafe this afternoon, but everyone had great fun working together as a team.

We had a lovely little breakfast get together with Residents in our Cafe this morning. 

This morning the ladies had the choice or fresh butter croissants, pan au chocolate's and pancakes with freshly squeezed orange juice and coffee. 

Our breakfast club is on every Monday morning from 9:30am. Reident's, family and friends are able to enjoy a continental breakfast, in a relaxed setting with classical music and delicious coffee.
