Activities at Iddenshall Hall Care Home

Activities here at Iddenshall Hall are an integral part of every day life for each of our residents. We strive to include as many of our residents as possible with the activities schedule. Our Schedule is released monthly and includes activities such as poetry afternoons, indoor games, Bingo, flower arranging, pamper days, quizzes, exercises, various musicians and entertainers, Pat Dog Visits, Music Therapy, discussion groups and trips out in our minibus to local places of interest and further afield to see the Blackpool Lights or to Knowsley Safari Park.

We are constantly asking the people who live in our home which events they would like to see taking place and we endeavor to fulfill these requests. Our aim is to provide a varied and packed schedule which allows for a vast array of skill bases and capabilities. We are in constant contact with local groups and businesses, the local Beaver Scout group are always happy to pay a visit to our home, helping with the garden or coming at Christmas to sing carols for us. We also have a small group of volunteers to help us, including pupils from our local 6th form College who visit once a week.

All the above helps ensure the lives of our Residents are fun and fulfilled.

Residents honour the fallen

Iddenshall Hall & Beeston View commemorated Remembrance Sunday on 08th November, where they joined the rest of the United Kingdom in holding a two-minute silence at 11am.

As well as marking Remembrance Day by wearing poppies and watching the televised service, some residents started their remembrance by painting poppies and making crafts which were used for decoration of the home. This helped stimulate memories and them to share stories and talk about the importance of Remembrance.

One of the Residents said it made her feel proud to make things to remember those who had fought for their country. After watching the service staff and Residents joined together for photographs with their banner and poppies.

A wish is granted

Iddenshall Hall and Beeston View through the life enrichment programme are looking at new ways to keep residents socially and mentally stimulated, As part of their person centered activities ‘making a Wish’  initiative, residents are given the opportunity to tell staff about something they would like to do in their wildest dreams. This could include virtually visiting a magical place or enjoying a special activity, with staff then doing their upmost to make that dream become a reality in some form.

For one resident, it was simply to handle her typewriter, so she can write stories and her thoughts to remember so she can talk about it. The homes activities team are delighted as they watch her daily practise!

Head of House Keeping celebrates 20 years service

Sally started at Iddenshall Hall in October 2000, having previously been a self-employed hairdresser. Sally initially started in housekeeping working part-time whilst bringing up her family. During her time she took up working in both the Kitchen and in-house hairdressing until she gradually worked her way up to becoming Head of Housekeeping.

Sally said, "During my time here at Iddenshall & Beeston View I’ve made lots of good friends, met lots of lovely residents and residents families over the years. I’ve worked in many areas of the home which has meant I have a wider knowledge of the working home environment. My own father resided at Iddenshall for his palliative care needs, which I knew the high standards of care he’d receive. So thanks to all the carers and staff who knew him and gave him great comfort during his stay. All in all, this just shows it’s a great place to both work in and to live. I thoroughly enjoy my job”

When asked, all staff and residents at Iddenshall Hall & Beeston View said they feel very lucky to have Sally as a colleague and friend, everyone appreciates having her around.

Gingerbread decorating

Residents from Iddenshall Hall and Beeston View enjoyed an afternoon of gingerbread decorating as part of their baking club, which took them back to their younger years.  Baking sessions are a popular activity for the home and the activity had taste buds tingling.

The homes activities coordinator, said: “The residents enjoyed getting creative with their decorations as it not only brings back memories of their childhood, but also times when they’ve baked with their own children and grandchildren. Once all the biscuits were decorated, we all enjoyed sitting down with a cup of tea and a home-made cake.”

Bewitching tricks and treats for Halloween

Barchester’s Iddenshall Hall and Beeston View was a den of ghoulish activity as the home’s spooky Halloween party got in to full swing.

Staff and residents got in to the spirit of things with games, fancy dress and much more!  It was a spooktacular fun filled day filled with laughter!  Residents also enjoyed delicious home-made cakes prepared by the homes hospitality team over a cup of tea.

A splash of colour

Residents from Iddenshall Hall and Beeston View often get together to enjoy their regular art and craft sessions which supports their creative ideas and encourages different methods of Art. Residents have been busy showing their own style of colourful designs.

This class is particularly popular with all and everyone thoroughly enjoys a get together with a cuppa and a slice of delicious cake.   Residents enjoy the colouring and crafting as find it very calming and therapeutic. It enhances mindfulness and promotes a positive mental well-being.
