Activities at Iddenshall Hall Care Home

Activities here at Iddenshall Hall are an integral part of every day life for each of our residents. We strive to include as many of our residents as possible with the activities schedule. Our Schedule is released monthly and includes activities such as poetry afternoons, indoor games, Bingo, flower arranging, pamper days, quizzes, exercises, various musicians and entertainers, Pat Dog Visits, Music Therapy, discussion groups and trips out in our minibus to local places of interest and further afield to see the Blackpool Lights or to Knowsley Safari Park.

We are constantly asking the people who live in our home which events they would like to see taking place and we endeavor to fulfill these requests. Our aim is to provide a varied and packed schedule which allows for a vast array of skill bases and capabilities. We are in constant contact with local groups and businesses, the local Beaver Scout group are always happy to pay a visit to our home, helping with the garden or coming at Christmas to sing carols for us. We also have a small group of volunteers to help us, including pupils from our local 6th form College who visit once a week.

All the above helps ensure the lives of our Residents are fun and fulfilled.

Life at Iddenshall Hall Care Home

Christmas Decoration Day

Christmas Decoration Day

We have spent the day putting up our Christmas decorations at Iddenshall Hall and made it a full Christmas experience by enjoying sherry, mince pies and Christmas music whilst we decorated.

We have three trees at Iddenshall this year and had guidance from residents about where the gaps were in the trees for ornaments. Some residents helped to decorate the windowsills and lower parts of the trees – it is always a lovely day!

Starting Christmas Early

Starting Christmas Early

We took a trip to see some reindeer recently; we wanted to get in and see them before the seasonal rush started and they were too busy.

We had a lovely lunch, sat outside in the sunshine, and then had a private viewing of the reindeer, where residents had a chance to get up close and personal with Godzilla, Millie and their friends.

We were able to ask questions about them and take some lovely pictures. It was a great way to spend a few hours out and about.

Tarporley Methodist Chapel

Tarporley Methodist Chapel

We took some residents to Tarporley for a walk around this week and we paid a visit to the Methodist Chapel there. It has recently been refurbished and we were invited inside by the Vicar and his wife for a look around. It was decorated ready for a wedding, so there were flowers and ribbons on the staircases inside. We were able to sit down and enjoy the peacefulness of the chapel for a while, but then we were treated to a serenade by a lovely young man who played some tunes for us. It was a lovely way to spend some time on a rainy afternoon.

Nature Club

Nature Club

We have started out Nature Club at Iddenshall Hall; residents are making the most of the warmer weather and heading out into the home'es gardens to spot local wildlife and explore the types of plants, flowers and trees we have there. They are compiling lists of the species by taking pictures and then trying to identify them, using their in-home laptop computer.

Once they have identified all the different animals and plants, they will be putting together a garden book with their photographs and findings for everyone to see.

This is a great way to encourage residents to make use of our vast outdoor space and for them to learn all about the various wildlife and foliage we have here at Iddenshall.

The British Ironworks

The British Ironworks

We recently took a trip out in our minibus to The British Ironworks in Oswestry. We had a picnic lunch on the minibus as it was raining, however the sun came out for us and we were able to look around the Ironworks in the Sunshine at all the wonderful sculptures there.

It is a lovely place to visit and doesn't cost a penny! It is definitely something different from the norm and the residents had a great time. It’s full of amazing sculptures made from iron, spoons, knives and other interesting materials – so many life sized animals to look at that are so well made.

We would recommend it to anyone and we will definitely be returning soon!

Bridgemere Garden World

Bridgemere Garden World

We recently returned to Bridgemere Garden World this month. Our trips there are always a success as there is so much to see and do there. This time, residents were particularly taken by the moving dinosaurs on the crazy golf course.

We were able to look at all the lovely seasonal blooms and enjoy the indoor shopping area, looking at unusual foods in the food hall and petting the visiting dogs we saw along our route.
