Activities at Iris Court Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life. Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators will bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Iris Courts Christmas Soiree

Iris Court Kick started their Christmas Celebrations this weekend with their Christmas Soiree!.

Residents, staff welcomed all family and community in for the day, to join us browse our Christmas Market with stalls selling handmade goods, Our friendly Community PCSO'S from Hitchin Police station providing information on how the elderly community can stay safe at home. Once any shopping was done we truly got into the Christmas Spirit indulging in Cocktails, Baileys Hot Chocolates and a indulgent lunch of Canapes, Vol-au-vents and some festive favourites whilst enjoying live entertainment taking requests from us for our favourite Christmas songs!.

Being able to invite our local community into Iris Court, along with friends and family are a regular part of life at Iris Court to ensure our residents enjoy these special moments surrounded by their loved ones.

Iris Court Co-ordinate Christmas foodbank collection

Iris court had the pleasure of welcoming Kenny into us on behalf of People for People to talk about their reverse advent calendar initiative and how we can support at Iris court this year! With all donations going to the foodshed it shows how important the community coming together over the next few weeks can make a massive difference in being able to support those who need the help of the foodshed going forward into 2025!

The idea behind the Reverse Advent Calendar is that the collection focuses on different types of products each day so that all the essentials people might need are covered.

The team would like to ask anyone who can spare a few items of food or toiletries to bring them along to Iris Court to help ensure no one goes without essential items at this special time of the year.

We cant wait to start collecting our donations for this amazing cause and will be running this over a period of 20 days to collect as much as possible and we welcome any donations to help support.

Iris Court Residents Honour the Fallen

To mark Remembrance Day, staff and residents at Iris Court care home in Gosmore gathered to honoured the fallen with a “We’ll meet again” inspired performance.

Our residents, family and friends remembered those who fought during the war by welcoming talented local singer, Fiona Harrison, into the home to perform her show entitled “We’ll Meet Again” packed with everyone’s favourite war-time classics. Singing along to the well-known songs allowed families to reminisce about their war-time and share stories. The residents of Iris Court raised a toast to commemorate those who were lost and those who served. Our residents thoroughly enjoyed the performance with one of our lovely residents leaving us with this feedback " It is very important that we keep the memories of those who fought alive and that we also think about those involved in conflicts around the world today.  It has been so lovely to reminisce and fondly remember all those gave up their today for our tomorrow.”

Hitchin Library visit

Hitchin Library attended as guest speakers for our Monthly Dementia Cafe, It was a fantastic talk and to hear from the team at Hitchin Library to learn what they are doing to support the elderly community and try and ensure they can continue their life long hobbies & Interest easier. One of the fantastic Initiatives the Library holds are generational rummage boxes which we got the chance to look through today , where you can pick your subject & year and be able to go through many gems of that era which is great for reminiscing and bringing the community and friends closer together by sharing fond memories of each item which sparks a memory of years past. At Iris Court we will be registering with Hitchin Library to be able to access these rummage boxes for our residents here as a fun way to get to know our residents better and learn more about their earlier life experiences and memories.

Silent Firework Display Lighting up Iris Court

Iris Court lit up the sky for our silent firework display!.

Natalie our Activities Co-ordinator put on a brilliant show for your amazing residents and their families outside on the balconies of Iris Court. The show was created by a clever idea of smoke machines and laser lighting of course with some dramatic music to add to the excitement.
