Activities at Kenwyn Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

KelBilly Stomp Duo

This weekend we welcomed a new act to Kenwyn – The KelBilly Stomp duo.

Playing Rock n' Roll, Skiffle, folk and 60s singalong favourites on live instruments, this fantastic twosome have been quite literally stomping their way into our residents affections.

It was a lovely afternoon enjoyed by all and we are sure that It won’t be long before we invite them back to Kenwyn for more stomping good fun.

Community Companions

Our collaboration with BT continues with their Community Companion Initiative. Every week, one of BT's trained volunteers gives one of our residents a call, giving them the opportunity to chat about anything that they'd like. This is a welcomed opportunity for our residents to make a new friend, talk about life and memories, and share opinions and common interests.

Last week our beloved resident, Gerry, had a lovely chat with Ben. They spoke of Gerry's past career with the Yorkshire Post, and their joint love of trips to the beach.

What a beautiful initiative and lovely to see. Thank you to BT and their volunteers for creating relationships with our residents.

Gardening Therapy

Our residents recently rolled up their sleeves and got their hands dirty in a delightful gardening activity! Gardening isn't just about planting flowers... it's about nurturing growth, fostering connections, and finding joy in the simple pleasures of life.

By tending to these vibrant flowers, which are now placed outside their bedroom windows to admire, our residents not only create a stunning display but also reap the therapeutic benefits of gardening. Gardening helps to reduce stress, promotes physical activity, and fosters a sense of accomplishment. Well done to our residents for their beautiful additions to our colourful gardens.

Intergenerational collaboration!

The decades stretch between Kenwyn’s residents and the children, but that doesn’t stop the special moments we are seeing time and again during each visit.

Thank you once more to the whole group for visiting us this week and creating special memories.

Bits & Bobs Playgroup Mid Cornwall, we welcome you with open arms.

Poetry Club

At Kenwyn, it's important for us to foster the love of creativity and writing, and that's why our Poetry Club is a much loved gathering among our residents. We meet regularly to read and discuss various poems together, which is a wonderful opportunity to get the creative, imaginative, thoughtful, and social juices flowing.

In this week's group, one of our beloved residents, Alan, even shared some of his own poems, reading a few of his personal writings for everyone to admire. He enjoyed sharing the meaning behind them and his creative process saying, "Being creative and the process of art is not something that can be forced. For me, it's a feeling and it comes from the inside. It's meaningful."

Derek Brings the Sax to Life

We had the absolute pleasure of hosting the incredibly talented Derek Valenti, our beloved saxophonist, for another unforgettable performance! Derek's tunes never fail to captivate our residents, and today was no exception. Once he starts playing, the room is filled with an atmosphere of magic as we're transported to the world of music and memories.

Did you know? The saxophone is the only instrument in wide use today that was invented by a single individual — a musical instrument designer named Adolphe Sax, hence the name saxophone. It truly is a versatile and iconic instrument and I'm sure everyone can agree that it never fails to leave a lasting impression.

Thank you, Derek, for sharing your incredible talent with us once again!
