Activities at Kenwyn Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

BT Community Companion Initiative

There are benefits to great communication for everyone, but especially within elderly communities. Good communication can promote companionship, which is essential for emotional well-being.

On a daily basis we engage Kenwyn’s residents in life enriching activities and by communicating effectively we enjoy seeing the benefits.

For a number of months now, we have enjoyed a hugely successful partnership with BT and their fabulous initiative ‘Community Companion.’

Each week a volunteer from BT calls one of Kenwyn’s residents for a good old natter.

It has been so successful we increased the frequency of calls to once a week.

This week, volunteer Debbie from BT called Kenwyn’s resident Jill and they chatted happily for over 40 minutes and the results were heart warming.

Thank you BT!

A Trip to India!

Recently we set sail to an exciting new destination on our Kenwyn World Cruise, and this time India was our destination of choice.

We were ready for the sights and smells of this beautiful country, full of cultural history and tasty treats!

With our passports in our pockets, off we went to learn a little about India, sample some authentic & delicious Indian food, made for us by Kenwyn’s Chefs & of course, enjoy a tipple and a natter. One of Kenwyn’s beautiful lounges lent itself perfectly as an area for us to disembark and enjoy our afternoon together.

Watch out for our next destination to be announced and come along and jump on board!

April Dementia Café - An Easter Celebration

During the past week, we've embraced many Easter festivities such as the hatching of ducklings, egg hunts with children, and Easter crafting sessions, setting the perfect tone for this month's Dementia Café! Our residents enjoyed a wonderfully themed Easter gathering, where they had fun crocheting Easter decorations, assembling baskets, crafting cards, amongst plenty other engaging activities. Naturally, the occasion wouldn't be complete without loads of Easter eggs and treats! The day finished with happy smiles on everyone's faces as families and friends cherished the precious memories created with loved ones. It truly was a day to remember. We do hope you'll join us for our next Dementia Café - keep an eye on our socials for the details to be announced soon.

Easter Hatchlings

Respite stays at Kenwyn are hugely beneficial. Over Easter we have had 4 very unusual guests staying with us for their own respite break.

Four Ducklings.

A lovely, ethical company named Incredible Eggs delivered eggs to us in an incubator and Kenwyn’s residents enjoyed watching these eggs hatch over the following days.

It has been an Incredible journey to see the ducklings grown in confidence and fluffiness almost by the hour! They even had their first swim here with us.

The ducklings have now been safely collected and will enjoy life on the farm, never ending up in rescue centres. The farm is able to provide a home for every duckling from every egg - never over prescribing.

An Easter Egg Hunt to Remember!

Over Easter, we invited some very important guests to Kenwyn - a class of 35 year 2 children from St Mary's C of E Truro.
We had prepared an exciting Easter Egg hunt around Kenwyn’s fabulous gardens and we were lucky that the sun shone whilst the children were flying around frantically finding all the eggs and collecting them in their baskets.
We have said before how magical it is when the young and the elderly  come together, the gap between generations melting away, and we invite lots of children and groups to visit us. Today was no different!
Kenwyn’s residents loved watching the mornings events and the excitement almost lifted the roof!
After the Egg hunt, the year twos kindly sang for our residents and then each one was presented with a special Easter goody bag - from us to them.
We don’t think it will be long before we invite them back!

Our Therapy Dog, Rosie

The benefits of Therapy animals are widely documented, especially in Care homes. Recognised to increase our emotional wellbeing and much more. Actually stroking an animal can release happy hormones such as Serotonin, Prolactin and Oxytocin.

At Kenwyn we run various pet therapy programmes, inviting a whole host of animals to visit us, from ducklings to ponies and snakes to Owls!

The dog owners amongst you won’t be surprised to hear that Rosie the therapy dog is definitely one of our favourites and our residents adore her.

Rosie is a special little dog who brings with her a lovely energy that spreads around Kenwyn.
