Activities at Kings Park Care Home

The Kings Kids were back in action in our home recently as our residents gathered to interact and play with some of them...

These wonderful intergenerational sessions allow some wonderful connections to grow between the differing age groups and for the children, we have seen such a wonderful growth in their confidence since we first met some of them.

Many of our residents have had their own families or have either taught or looked after little ones in a variety of capacities, so love spending time with these little angels.

Thank you Kings Kids for your continued support and for leaving behind some very happy, smiley residents, long after you leave the building.

One of our lovely residents just happens to be a dab hand at darts...

The fabulous Bert, loves nothing more than a little darts match or two, so we recently enabled him to enjoy his little hobby, as we set up the darts board in our orangery area for him.

Cast your minds back to 1981 when Bullseye was watched by many on our TV's and in the words of the late, great Jim Bowen of Bullseye fame; ‘You can’t beat a bit of Bully!’

And remember, Bert, ‘Stay out of the black and into the red, Nothing in this game for two in a bed.’

We recently welcomed the wonderful Milarepa Malc Burgin into our home once more, for a fabulous session Music & Movement...

Malcolm has this wonderful calming air about him and he fully engages with each and every resident during these meaningful sessions, which our residents seem to get a lot from, particularly those residents which we support on our Memory Lane floor.

These sessions allow residents to express themselves and how they're feeling, utilising rhythm & music as the catalyst.

This afternoon was truly wonderful and we very much look forwards to seeing you again very soon, Malcolm!

We were recently able to take some of our wonderful dementia residents for a rather lovely bus to trip to the fabulous Aunt Fannys Farm Shop & Café...

The weather may have been dull and damp, but that, by no means, got our spirits down!

Aunt Fanny's was a feast for the senses; the vivid décor was certainly impressive, with a rustic shabby chic feel, with items and artefacts dotted everywhere and a rather impressive ceiling with all kinds of different teapots!

The choice of vivid coloured cake definitely caught the attention of the residents and they were soon seated, with a lovely hot cuppa, quickly testing out the cakes that had caught their eye.

Sitting in these surroundings quickly enabled some wonderful conversations as residents tucked into their treats and shared stories and memories of yesteryear.

We are so grateful for our minibus to enable us to get out and about in the community and come to such fantastic places as this.

Did you know that sensory activities are great for stimulating our brains and that for those living with dementia, these kind of activities can be utilised to help induce a sense of joy and calmness, as well as helping to reduce anxiety?

So recently we had a wonderful time joining Cadbury for an interactive virtual talk on their fascinating 200-year history.

Our residents learnt interesting facts about the chocolate giant, shared memories, and reminisced about their favourite sweet treats.

It was a heart-warming experience filled with laughter, nostalgia, and plenty of chocolatey goodness, with lots of delicious chocolate for everyone to try!

Reminiscence is something that everyone here in our care truly enjoys, especially those of our residents who may be living with dementia...

Remembering and chatting about those memories which we all hold dear, often bring the residents together (usually over a nice cup of tea & a piece of delicious cake!), to share their thoughts and special moments.

Up on our Memory Lane floor, tapping into these sometimes forgotten treasured memories, can often bring so much joy to the individuals we care for and sometimes it's the little things which enable them to remember these wonderful thoughts and feelings.

Whether it's a picture and item, a song or a phrase, these things can often unlock something lovely.

With that in mind, our Activities Lead, Claudia, has put together a lovely seaside reminiscence rummage box to encourage the residents to chat and share thoughts and feelings.
