Activities at Lancaster Grange Care Home
Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

We would like to introduce to you our Senior Activities Coordinator, Charlotte Thompson. Charlotte has worked at Barchester since 2015 and prides herself on delivering a person centred approach, valuing equality, diversity & offering tailored activities. Charlotte joined the team at Tennyson Wharf in October 2022 before moving back to us here at Lancaster Grange in January 2023.
Charlotte is pleased to be welcoming families and volunteers back into the home. Charlotte is a senior activities coordinator and enjoys supporting other homes in our region as part of her job role.

Life at Lancaster Grange Care Home
Quiz nights
Our quiz night in full swing this evening at Lancaster Grange. Our residents fully enjoyed a social gathering, with two themed quizzes along with Gin & fizz. Congratulations to tonight’s winning team.. Elsie, Barbara, Anne & Shelia
Sharing memories
Our residents of Lancaster Grange came together in our Sherwood Lounge for an afternoon of memories. We set up an activity to bring along a treasured photo and share stories in a social environment. Eric made us guess the price for his honeymoon in 1945 with his original invoice. Keith told us about his learning to fly and his first flight. Betty shared with us the Queen visiting the WI at Olympia.
Royal Botanic Garden
Our homes enjoyed a wonderful virtual tour of the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh with Community Engagement Manager, Charlotte Walker, and Botanic Cottage Operations Co-ordinator, Laura Gallagher.
The residents were thrilled to learn more about the history of the beautiful Garden, which is now a home to an impressive plant collection from around the world.
Charlotte and Laura also gave a demonstration of making fresh herbal tea and were happy to answer our questions. The virtual experience was truly enjoyed by all who joined.
Armchair Yoga
This morning at Lancaster Grange we enjoyed a taster session of armchair yoga with our Instructor Claire. Our residents enjoyed learning breathing techniques & meditation exercises.
Yoga has so many vital benefits, according to scientific evidence it shows that yoga supports stress management, mental health, mindfulness, healthy eating, weight loss and quality sleep. We are eagerly looking forward to our next session of yoga.
Celebrating Grandparents
Today at Lancaster Grange we have been celebrating Grandparents Day. In our songs of praise Service this morning, residents have spoken about their grandchildren and their role as grandparents. Betty brought pictures of her granddaughters and wrote a wonderful poem.
World Heart Day
Today in Lancaster Grange, we raised awareness about World Heart Day. This morning, in our social group, we discussed this day at length with the information we were given by the British Heart Foundation.
We discussed keeping ourselves fit & healthy, a balanced diet & exercise. We also talked about positive mental well-being.
Jane, Head of our Residential community offered well-being checks & volunteers offered walks around our grounds to our residents.
