Activities at Lanercost House Care Home

Our dedicated Activities Coordinators offer a wide range of mentally and physically stimulating activities for residents and families to enjoy. There are regular outings in the minibus to places of interest, such as local cafes, garden centres and parks, as well as visits from entertainers, musicians and singers - and also from PAT dogs. We host various events, such as themed days, cheese & wine evenings, in addition to offering one-to-one activity sessions, including pampering, games and puzzles. Our activities staff strive to ensure residents participate in any way they can with activities that reflect their capabilities and interests.

Emily Stubbs

Head of Activities

I joined the Lanercost House family in June 2021 as a Care Assistant and then joined the activities team in May 2022.

I love bringing joy and fun to residents, relatives, and staff on a daily basis as well as planning and organising themed days, events, and celebrations.

I think the activities’ role is very important for Residents' well-being.  Whether they like to keep active with armchair exercises, join in with our weekly quiz or hop in the minibus for a day out - there is something for everyone.  I aim to ensure that each Resident's interests and hobbies are supported.

I am passionate about creative and sensory activities and I love to sing and dance together with Residents.  I love my job!

Life at Lanercost House Care Home

Diving into the deep with virtual talk

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Lanercost care home in were treated to a virtual tour of the wonderful underwater world of SEA LIFE London Aquarium, hosted by Senior Curator, James Wright and his expert team.

SEA LIFE London Aquarium is home to more than 300 species and 4,000 creatures, including Gentoo Penguins, Sea Turtles and Seahorses, which are cared for by its dedicated team of 15 Aquarists. The shark tank alone is one million litres in volume and six metres deep and is home to five species of sharks – Sand Tigers called Bungle and Zippy, a Grey Reef Shark, Nurse Sharks, Tawny Nurse Shark and a shiver of Black Tip Reef Sharks as well as a Bowmouth Guitarfish called Betty.

Home goes green for St Patrick's Day

Residents and staff had a fantastic day at Lanercost House in celebrating St. Patricks day. There was non-stop fun throughout the day as Residents laughed at the jokes being shared, the fancy dress outfits and the teams attempt at the Irish jig.

There was a bit of a knees up in the afternoon as everyone continued to paint the home green, as everyone enjoyed a taster session of beverages the Emerald Isle has to offer from Guinness and a few Irish coffees went down a treat!  What a lovely day, “to be sure, to be sure”.

And we are off!

Wow! What a day we've had today!   Here at Lanercost House we have held our very own themed races day today to coincide with Cheltenham Festival ladies day, a key fixture on the racing calendar.

Our ladies and gents got into the spirit of things and put on their best outfits, hats and ties for a good afternoon of food, drink and horse racing.

They have enjoyed delicious canapés, a glass of fizz and the excitement of a bet on a race although they weren't the only winners as we announced the lucky ladies who won best dressed.

Days like these create a fantastic atmosphere around the home and the staff are always happy to get involved and we are looking forward to the next event!

Mother's Day

It has been another lovely day at Lanercost House today, between our Mother's Day visits in our designated visiting pods and getting our ladies together via Facetime and Skype calls to celebrate the things that make mothers so special!

Our ladies here have received a sweet treat as a gift from the home and enjoyed homemade afternoon tea created by our hospitality team alongside a game of 'Mother's Day' prize bingo.

A huge happy Mother's Day to all our mothers. Residents, staff, friends and family. We hope you have all had a lovely day,

Getting ready for the races!

Here at lanercost House we are preparing for our very own ladies day, our ladies and gents are very much looking forward to a 'Day at the races' to coincide with Cheltenham Festival next week.

We plan to be dressed in our best, enjoy good food and drink and place a bet or two while watching the races live.

Our friends at the Cumberland News have given us a little helping hand to make the day fabulous for everyone!

Pancake Day

The staff and residents at Lanercost House in Carlisle, have been flipping and turning pancakes all morning in preparation for their annual Shrove Tuesday pancake day.

Lanercost House has marked this year’s Pancake Day with resident’s reminiscence over the different recipes for making the best pancakes. The homes hospitality team whipped up a selection of pancakes serving them up with sweet and savoury fillings for all the eager staff and residents.
