Activities at Lanercost House Care Home
Our dedicated Activities Coordinators offer a wide range of mentally and physically stimulating activities for residents and families to enjoy. There are regular outings in the minibus to places of interest, such as local cafes, garden centres and parks, as well as visits from entertainers, musicians and singers - and also from PAT dogs. We host various events, such as themed days, cheese & wine evenings, in addition to offering one-to-one activity sessions, including pampering, games and puzzles. Our activities staff strive to ensure residents participate in any way they can with activities that reflect their capabilities and interests.

I joined the Lanercost House family in June 2021 as a Care Assistant and then joined the activities team in May 2022.
I love bringing joy and fun to residents, relatives, and staff on a daily basis as well as planning and organising themed days, events, and celebrations.
I think the activities’ role is very important for Residents' well-being. Whether they like to keep active with armchair exercises, join in with our weekly quiz or hop in the minibus for a day out - there is something for everyone. I aim to ensure that each Resident's interests and hobbies are supported.
I am passionate about creative and sensory activities and I love to sing and dance together with Residents. I love my job!

Home celebrate Queens official birthday
Lanercost House in Carlisle marked the Queen’s official 95th birthday on June 12th in style with a right royal tea garden party.
Head chef David Graham whipped up a tasty selection of freshly-baked biscuits, pastries and cakes for the occasion, all washed down with pots of tea and a glass or two of bubbly. Residents took part in a royal–themed Garden party, where we joined together to listen to the Queens favourite music and songs and sang a very happy birthday to HRH before planting a beautiful yellow rose in her honour.
A tour of the wild....
Staff and residents at Lanercost House were treated to an exciting live streaming tour of Knowsley Safari, hosted by Engagement Assistant, Verity Dann.
Knowsley Safari has been welcoming visitors for 50 years since it opened in July 1971. Situated in the Knowsley area of Merseyside, the safari park is home to 750 animals on a 550 acre site, it boasts the longest safari drive in the UK.
Residents enjoy floral demo
Staff and residents at Lanercost House were treated to an interactive virtual floristry masterclass courtesy of Master Florist, Michal Kowalski, from Blooming Haus.
Blooming Haus started with a small pop-up shop in Chelsea. They have since blossomed spectacularly on to the floristry scene as ‘floral engineers’, carving themselves an outstanding reputation as one of the UK’s most innovative floral design studios
A paint pouring artist!
Here at Lanercost House as part of the homes varied life enrichment programme we host a selection of group and club activities along with resident centred activities whether it simply chatting or enjoying something of their choice. Today we showed our creative sides when we had a 'paint pouring artist', her smile says it all! It certainly was a colourful day here at the home.
Residents enjoy talk on ocean travel
Staff and residents at Barchester’s Lanercost House in Carlisle were treated to a photographic tour and talk about the era of ocean travel by V&A Dundee Curator, Charlotte Hale. The presentation forms part of a series of six talks and virtual tours that V&A Dundee is hosting for Barchester Healthcare’s care homes and private hospitals across the UK.
V&A Dundee is Scotland’s design museum, it showcases Scotland’s outstanding design achievements and features world-class exhibitions alongside the permanent Scottish Design Galleries, and a changing programme of commissions, events and activities.
National Vegetarian Week
To celebrate National Vegetarian Week, staff and residents at Barchester’s Lanercost House were treated to an interactive virtual cookery demo courtesy of chef, Alex Connell, from Vegetarian for Life.
Chef Alex whipped up some tasty, healthy vegetarian snacks in a live, interactive cookery demo. Much to residents’ delight, Lanercost House head chef had prepared the same recipes so that residents could try all the dishes. Residents sampled delicious, light and summery veggie dishes including Borlotti bean and dill pate, Greek fritters with Tzatziki and Coronation 'chicken' pastries. All finished off with a sweet and simple but totally yummy banana bread.
