Activities at Lanercost House Care Home

Our dedicated Activities Coordinators offer a wide range of mentally and physically stimulating activities for residents and families to enjoy. There are regular outings in the minibus to places of interest, such as local cafes, garden centres and parks, as well as visits from entertainers, musicians and singers - and also from PAT dogs. We host various events, such as themed days, cheese & wine evenings, in addition to offering one-to-one activity sessions, including pampering, games and puzzles. Our activities staff strive to ensure residents participate in any way they can with activities that reflect their capabilities and interests.

Emily Stubbs

Head of Activities

I joined the Lanercost House family in June 2021 as a Care Assistant and then joined the activities team in May 2022.

I love bringing joy and fun to residents, relatives, and staff on a daily basis as well as planning and organising themed days, events, and celebrations.

I think the activities’ role is very important for Residents' well-being.  Whether they like to keep active with armchair exercises, join in with our weekly quiz or hop in the minibus for a day out - there is something for everyone.  I aim to ensure that each Resident's interests and hobbies are supported.

I am passionate about creative and sensory activities and I love to sing and dance together with Residents.  I love my job!

Life at Lanercost House Care Home

The great outdoors

Residents recently enjoyed some autumn sunshine and tending to the homes garden, they raked leaves and deflowered the flower beds ready for the wintery weather.  Gardening is a popular activity and residents like nothing better than being outdoors and look forward to seeing their planting flourish.

The Lanercost Inn

The gentleman of Lanercost love their popular gentleman’s club sessions.  The gentleman’s club is one of the many activities offered by the home as part of the life enrichment programme.  The men were happy to “say cheers” with a pint of their favourite beer whilst watching the televised live game of rugby.

Keeping residents connected during the colder months

Residents are overjoyed at Lanercost House care home in Carlisle, as Barchester Healthcare has implemented a visiting suite for residents to continue to spend time with their loved ones for the autumn and winter seasons in addition to the outdoor visiting that has been on offer for those able for many months.

Balancing resident wellbeing and safety is at the forefront of Barchester Healthcare’s thinking and they understand how important it is for residents and their family and friends to be able to spend time together in the safest way possible.

There has been much careful planning and preparation for this moment by Barchester Healthcare, who run Lanercost House care home. It was welcome news for their residents and family and friends as we enter the colder season meaning catch-ups can continue to take place, instead of, or in addition to, outdoor visiting already offered for those able.

Exercising the Mind, Body and Soul

Keeping active, having social interactions and being mentally stimulated is very important to Residents at Lanercost.

As part of the homes life enrichment programme, the activities coordinators include firm favourite’s in the homes calendar with fun-filled adapted games that they played over the years in a safe environment!

Halloween fun for Residents

Barchester’s Lanercost was a den of ghoulish activity as the home’s spooky Halloween party got in to full swing.

Staff and residents got in to the spirit of things with music and games and staff dressed up to get into the spirit of things to the amusement of Residents.

General Manager, Nigel Godman cackled: “Our residents and staff love an opportunity to dress up and what better time of the year to do this than Halloween? We’ve had a whole range of tricks and treats for the people that live here and we have all really enjoyed every moment of it!”

Residents enjoy life enrichment

The fun and laughter has continued at Lanercost House care home, in Carlisle as residents recently enjoyed trying food tasting sessions, quizzes, postcards home, word games, armchair exercise, theme days, video calling, virtual tours, gardening, bread making, flower arranging, free prize bingo, residents meetings, personal pampers, coffee mornings and much more.

Residents at Lanercost House have enjoyed our engaging activities programmes consisting of virtual concerts and entertainers, YouTube exercise sessions, virtual religious services, choir singing, museum and city tours arranged by the homes’ activities team for residents within the home.
