Activities at Lanercost House Care Home

Our dedicated Activities Coordinators offer a wide range of mentally and physically stimulating activities for residents and families to enjoy. There are regular outings in the minibus to places of interest, such as local cafes, garden centres and parks, as well as visits from entertainers, musicians and singers - and also from PAT dogs. We host various events, such as themed days, cheese & wine evenings, in addition to offering one-to-one activity sessions, including pampering, games and puzzles. Our activities staff strive to ensure residents participate in any way they can with activities that reflect their capabilities and interests.

Emily Stubbs

Head of Activities

I joined the Lanercost House family in June 2021 as a Care Assistant and then joined the activities team in May 2022.

I love bringing joy and fun to residents, relatives, and staff on a daily basis as well as planning and organising themed days, events, and celebrations.

I think the activities’ role is very important for Residents' well-being.  Whether they like to keep active with armchair exercises, join in with our weekly quiz or hop in the minibus for a day out - there is something for everyone.  I aim to ensure that each Resident's interests and hobbies are supported.

I am passionate about creative and sensory activities and I love to sing and dance together with Residents.  I love my job!

Life at Lanercost House Care Home

Mother's Day

It has been another lovely day at Lanercost House today, between our Mother's Day visits in our designated visiting pods and getting our ladies together via Facetime and Skype calls to celebrate the things that make mothers so special!

Our ladies here have received a sweet treat as a gift from the home and enjoyed homemade afternoon tea created by our hospitality team alongside a game of 'Mother's Day' prize bingo.

A huge happy Mother's Day to all our mothers. Residents, staff, friends and family. We hope you have all had a lovely day,

Getting ready for the races!

Here at lanercost House we are preparing for our very own ladies day, our ladies and gents are very much looking forward to a 'Day at the races' to coincide with Cheltenham Festival next week.

We plan to be dressed in our best, enjoy good food and drink and place a bet or two while watching the races live.

Our friends at the Cumberland News have given us a little helping hand to make the day fabulous for everyone!

Pancake Day

The staff and residents at Lanercost House in Carlisle, have been flipping and turning pancakes all morning in preparation for their annual Shrove Tuesday pancake day.

Lanercost House has marked this year’s Pancake Day with resident’s reminiscence over the different recipes for making the best pancakes. The homes hospitality team whipped up a selection of pancakes serving them up with sweet and savoury fillings for all the eager staff and residents.

The Music Man

Here at Lanercost House we like to ensure that our residents can continue with their hobbies and interests, past and present and for one Resident, it was music.  The homes activities coordinator brought in a guitar and we had ‘the music man’ as he played for everyone some of his favourite songs.  With a family steeped in musical history and members that are luthiers, this brought back many fond memories for him and to everyone else it was a joy to  listen to him play.

Love is in the air

Love was in the air at Lanercost House as our residents enjoying a valentine’s themed baking session.  We made delicious cupcakes which were served during our Afternoon tea and we had a wonderful time decorating them with pink icing and red hearts.  Residents shared their fond memories of past valentine’s and the most romantic gestures which they had received.

Year of the Ox

Residents enjoyed a fun-filled day of themed activities as they celebrated the Chinese New Year as they brought in the year of the Ox.  There was plenty to do for everyone from quizzes, puzzle sheets, watching the traditional Dragon dance and learning new phrases in Mandarin for ‘Hello and Goodbye’ before settling back to enjoy a Chinese themed lunch especially prepared by the homes hospitality team.
