Activities at Lanercost House Care Home

Our dedicated Activities Coordinators offer a wide range of mentally and physically stimulating activities for residents and families to enjoy. There are regular outings in the minibus to places of interest, such as local cafes, garden centres and parks, as well as visits from entertainers, musicians and singers - and also from PAT dogs. We host various events, such as themed days, cheese & wine evenings, in addition to offering one-to-one activity sessions, including pampering, games and puzzles. Our activities staff strive to ensure residents participate in any way they can with activities that reflect their capabilities and interests.

Emily Stubbs

Head of Activities

I joined the Lanercost House family in June 2021 as a Care Assistant and then joined the activities team in May 2022.

I love bringing joy and fun to residents, relatives, and staff on a daily basis as well as planning and organising themed days, events, and celebrations.

I think the activities’ role is very important for Residents' well-being.  Whether they like to keep active with armchair exercises, join in with our weekly quiz or hop in the minibus for a day out - there is something for everyone.  I aim to ensure that each Resident's interests and hobbies are supported.

I am passionate about creative and sensory activities and I love to sing and dance together with Residents.  I love my job!

Life at Lanercost House Care Home

Keeping active

Residents at Lanercost have been enjoying weekly sessions of music and movement which sees them having fun and keeping fit at the same time.  Activities said "we always have great fun in these sessions and our residents enjoy a laugh when they do funny musical workouts".

Residents enjoy afternoon tea for Mcmillan

We celebrated our McMillan Coffee Morning on Friday 25th September. We enjoyed lots of delicious treats kindly donated by staff and residents for this worthy cause.  It was a very different occasion this year without any visitors but we made up for it with lots of chatting and laughter.

Residents enjoy carnival tropical treats

Sadly due to the pandemic, one of London ’s biggest and glitteriest street parties didn't take place but that didn't stop Residents enjoy a colourful carnival themed day, Residents were treated to a selection of mouth watering tropical treats and the flavours and taste sensations were a stimulation on the tongue and enjoyed by all.

St Swithin's Day

Residents were planning a Coffee Morning in the homes garden to celebrate St. Swinthin's Day.  But................it rained after monitoring their chances with their weather chart. They reverted to plan B and held an indoor coffee morning with a selection of traditional home made cakes.

National Allotment Week

Residents at Lanercost took part in National Allotments Week during 10th – 16th August.

National Allotments Week started in 2002 as a way of raising awareness of allotments and the role they play in helping people to live healthier lifestyles, grow their own food, develop friendships and bolster communities.

Allotments have many benefits. They bring people together and unite them through their shared love of home-grown, healthy fresh fruit and vegetables, physical exercise and social interaction.

This week residents at Lanercost got involved in planting herbs, a quiz to identify allotment vegetables or plants.

Friendship Day

Residents of Lanercost celebrated Friendship day by sharing personalised handwritten poems and letters as a gift to each other and to share to team members as a thank you for all their hard work during the covid19 pandemic.

Residents spent the day reminiscing about old friends and telling tales of new friendships made within the home and reading friendship poems.
