Activities at Lanercost House Care Home

Our dedicated Activities Coordinators offer a wide range of mentally and physically stimulating activities for residents and families to enjoy. There are regular outings in the minibus to places of interest, such as local cafes, garden centres and parks, as well as visits from entertainers, musicians and singers - and also from PAT dogs. We host various events, such as themed days, cheese & wine evenings, in addition to offering one-to-one activity sessions, including pampering, games and puzzles. Our activities staff strive to ensure residents participate in any way they can with activities that reflect their capabilities and interests.

Emily Stubbs

Head of Activities

I joined the Lanercost House family in June 2021 as a Care Assistant and then joined the activities team in May 2022.

I love bringing joy and fun to residents, relatives, and staff on a daily basis as well as planning and organising themed days, events, and celebrations.

I think the activities’ role is very important for Residents' well-being.  Whether they like to keep active with armchair exercises, join in with our weekly quiz or hop in the minibus for a day out - there is something for everyone.  I aim to ensure that each Resident's interests and hobbies are supported.

I am passionate about creative and sensory activities and I love to sing and dance together with Residents.  I love my job!

Life at Lanercost House Care Home

VE Day Celebrations

As care homes across the country remembered to toast the heroes of WW2, residents at Lanercost came together to remember with a virtual street party, with residents sharing tales of when victory in Europe was announced.

On May 8, 1945, these proud men and women had been dancing in the streets while still on active service. Every year since, they have paused to reflect on the conflict that claimed millions of lives.

Happy Birthday, Captain Tom!

Lanercost House took the time to wish Captain Tom Moore a very Happy 100th birthday. They prepared a colourful banner to say thank you for raising so much money for the NHS.

Captain Tom is a former British Army officer known for his efforts to raise money for the NHS in the run-up to his 100th birthday during the Coronavirus pandemic. Moore served in India and the Burma campaign during the Second World War.

A 'Thank You' from the Police

We were delighted when some of Carlisle Section 4 officers did some socially distanced community engagement in various locations around Carlisle, handing out balloons to children, the elderly, and people who are experiencing lonely periods of self-isolation. They brightened people’s days in what can be a scary and anxious time for some.

Residents Enjoy Blooming Afternoon

Residents of Lanercost enjoyed an afternoon of flower arranging to help decorate their home with springtime blooms. Everyone enjoyed assorting the flowers to create beautiful arrangements in various vases while having a catch-up over a cup of tea.

Margaret Watt, activities coordinator at Lanercost , said: “Everyone really enjoyed the flower arranging activity. Our home looks and smells even more lovely now the beautiful blooms are on display.”

Community Spirit Brings Local Delivery

Residents and colleagues at Lanercost were delighted to answer the door to accept a special delivery from Lyreco to receive a donation of an espresso coffee machine and two large boxes of coffee pods, who doesn’t need a coffee hit!

Everyone is delighted and looking forward to enjoying a nice coffee with the papers and in recognition of the homes hard working, dedicated team supporting Residents during this difficult period.

On behalf of Lanercost, residents and colleagues would like to pass on their gratitude for being considered at this time of uncertainty and hope everyone stays safe and well. Such a nice gesture thinking of us care homes and everyone joining forces to keep the community spirit together!

15 Years of Service

A registered nurse at Lanercost House has received a prestigious 15 Year Service Award in celebration of working at Barchester Healthcare for 15 years. Dawn Bailey started at Barchester in January 2005 and has worked with residents and their relatives to ensure that their needs have been met over the years.

We’re delighted to be celebrating 15 years of loyal service with Dawn. She has demonstrated her dedication and loyalty to this home and its residents year after year.
