Activities at Lanercost House Care Home

Our dedicated Activities Coordinators offer a wide range of mentally and physically stimulating activities for residents and families to enjoy. There are regular outings in the minibus to places of interest, such as local cafes, garden centres and parks, as well as visits from entertainers, musicians and singers - and also from PAT dogs. We host various events, such as themed days, cheese & wine evenings, in addition to offering one-to-one activity sessions, including pampering, games and puzzles. Our activities staff strive to ensure residents participate in any way they can with activities that reflect their capabilities and interests.

Emily Stubbs

Head of Activities

I joined the Lanercost House family in June 2021 as a Care Assistant and then joined the activities team in May 2022.

I love bringing joy and fun to residents, relatives, and staff on a daily basis as well as planning and organising themed days, events, and celebrations.

I think the activities’ role is very important for Residents' well-being.  Whether they like to keep active with armchair exercises, join in with our weekly quiz or hop in the minibus for a day out - there is something for everyone.  I aim to ensure that each Resident's interests and hobbies are supported.

I am passionate about creative and sensory activities and I love to sing and dance together with Residents.  I love my job!

Life at Lanercost House Care Home

Meet our Lanercost Guards!

The Lanercost guards are out this year watching over our designated visiting suite spreading a little festive cheer! These 6 foot festive guards were lovingly created by the staff and residents of Lanercost House and are proudly displayed for all to see from our visitor suite, hours of endless fun and creativity went in to making them from scratch and they have been thoroughly appreciated by all who have seen them in raising a smile. From everyone at Lanercost House we wish you a safe and happy 2021.

Residents enjoy festive photoshoot

Barchester’s Lanercost got into the Christmas spirit when they created their very own festive photoshoot.  The residents loved dressing up in their favourite festive clothes to capture the magic of Christmas in front of an 'open fire' to take photographs and to share to their loved ones as a Christmas keep sake. Everyone had a wonderful day!

'Tis the season to be jolly!

Barchester’s Lanercost care home, in Carlisle, have got in the Christmas spirit by hosting a festive treats evening for residents alongside decorating the home.

Lanercost’s Christmas festivities are in full swing with fancy dress, festive foods and live streamed music and virtual shows as they countdown to Christmas.  Residents enjoyed an evening of sweet treat of festive hot chocolate especially prepared and served by the homes hospitality team before settling back to watch Christmas films during a movie evening. This is one of many activities Residents are enjoying as part of the homes life enrichment programme.

General Manager, Nigel Godman said: “We’ve had a year like no other so we wanted to really spoil our residents and give them an extra special treat.  We’ve all had such fun letting our hair down, and it is clear that everyone really enjoyed the start of the festive season.”

The great outdoors

Residents recently enjoyed some autumn sunshine and tending to the homes garden, they raked leaves and deflowered the flower beds ready for the wintery weather.  Gardening is a popular activity and residents like nothing better than being outdoors and look forward to seeing their planting flourish.

The Lanercost Inn

The gentleman of Lanercost love their popular gentleman’s club sessions.  The gentleman’s club is one of the many activities offered by the home as part of the life enrichment programme.  The men were happy to “say cheers” with a pint of their favourite beer whilst watching the televised live game of rugby.

Keeping residents connected during the colder months

Residents are overjoyed at Lanercost House care home in Carlisle, as Barchester Healthcare has implemented a visiting suite for residents to continue to spend time with their loved ones for the autumn and winter seasons in addition to the outdoor visiting that has been on offer for those able for many months.

Balancing resident wellbeing and safety is at the forefront of Barchester Healthcare’s thinking and they understand how important it is for residents and their family and friends to be able to spend time together in the safest way possible.

There has been much careful planning and preparation for this moment by Barchester Healthcare, who run Lanercost House care home. It was welcome news for their residents and family and friends as we enter the colder season meaning catch-ups can continue to take place, instead of, or in addition to, outdoor visiting already offered for those able.
