Activities at Laurel Bank Care Home
Activities are a fundamental part of a rich and varied lifestyle here at Laurel Bank Care Home, which is why we organise both physically and mentally stimulating social events for those we support. The weekly itinerary is ever-changing, and regularly includes art lessons, chair-based exercise, trips and visits from a variety of different animals, as well as one-to-one time for residents who prefer the peace and quiet. Our team actively tries to incorporate the hobbies and interests that are meaningful to residents into the activities schedule as encouragement to continue with much-loved pastimes.
Jaimy Lee Almond
Hi, my name is Jaimy Lee, and I am the Activities Coordinator here at Laurel Bank.
I have worked in the care home industry for over nine years. I started working at Laurel Bank in 2018 as a carer, and then, I was promoted to senior carer which I thoroughly enjoyed.
I moved over to activities in 2020, as I was asked to help out and help encourage residents to join in. During this, I realised how much fun it could be and chose to stay on and got promoted to Activities Coordinator.
I love my role as every day is different and I try to make sure the residents are happy and engage in meaningful activities, this also helps support the transition for new residents.

Life at Laurel Bank Care Home
Pub lunch
Residents at Laurel Bank have been very excited to go out and have a pub lunch accompanied with a glass of vino! Some very happy residents! Looking forward to our next trip!
Love is in the air!
Laurel Bank care home, in Lancaster, was filled with flowers, cards and sweets in celebration of St Valentine’s Day. Staff and residents celebrated the day of love by playing a new and improved edition of ‘Mr and Mrs’ which they renamed ‘Happy Couples?’ and had residents, staff and visitors join in, as well as creating heart-shaped decorations to decorate the home and sharing with each other home-made cakes and treats.
General Manager, Lyndsay Scott, said: “We’ve all had a lovely day decorating the home and making gifts for each other and for our loved ones. Lots of our residents were able to see their loved ones either in person or via video call. We’ve had a whole range of treats and Valentine’s themed fun and we have enjoyed every moment of it!”
Resident tries for employee of the month!
One of our residents, Sheila, has been overjoyed this week to be donning a uniform and helping our housekeeping team with their folding and setting up the dining rooms! She has had such fun helping out the team and is already requesting her rota for next week! Thank you for all your help Sheila, what a team player you are!
Residents address the 'Haggis'
Laurel Bank Care Home in Lancaster prepared a traditional Burns Night Lunch to the tune of bagpipes and the fun continued well through the day.
Staff and residents at the home were involved in a number of activities such as quizzes about Robert Burns, and drinking iron-bru, with a side of shortbread to mark the Scottish institution, including giving the time honoured address to the ‘Great chieftain O’ the pudding race’ – the haggis.
Home present cheque to local charity
Laurel Bank Care Home in Lancaster recently presented Ladies Who Lunch Virtual WI with a cheque for £720 to help increase the frequency of virtual meetings from one to two a month for women who cannot get to face to face meetings. Ladies Who Lunch Virtual WI is a branch of the Women's Institute, a national organisation for women, which is intended to advance education, promote sustainable development, advance public health and advance public citizenship. The grant had been awarded by Barchester’s Charitable Foundation, a charity that helps older people and adults with a disability or mental health problems across England, Scotland and Wales by offering grants to help people connect or re-connect with others in their local community.
Starlings with Royal Parks
Across our services our residents have enjoyed a wonderful live virtual talk about starlings, one of the UK’s most gregarious birds, hosted by Rachel Dowse from The Royal Parks London.
Rachel examined our long history with this bird and the importance of common species to our lives. Our residents had the opportunity to find out more about the great murmuration and why we need to pay special attention to these beauties before it's too late.
The virtual experience was truly enjoyed by all.
