Activities at Lawton Manor Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Chloe Cameron

Activities Coordinator

This is Chloe and she is our Activities Coordinator here at Lawton Manor. Her job is to physically and mentally stimulate our residents by offering a range of activities for them to enjoy. She wants to get everyone involved and make our home community and atmosphere as positive and welcoming as possible.

Making sure that our residents have things to do that they really enjoy doing is something that Chloe holds very close to her heart. It is so important to make sure that they are happy and enjoy all of the activities and events that we host for them. A lot of our residents also enjoy our special trips out on our Minibus as we create new, special memories together.

Life at Lawton Manor Care Home

Resident visits unconventional menagerie

Animal loving Resident Paul at Lawton Manor care home in Church Lawton nr Alsager recently visited The Unconventional Menagerie to experience first-hand how to handle snakes and other unusual animals & reptiles.

Activities Coordinator Liz arranged a one-to-one private educational tour for  Paul to spend some time with Christian, Owner of The Unconventional Menagerie in Longton, Stoke on Trent.  Paul was very hands-on at the education centre handling exotic and rare creatures and even fed one of the snakes, we were also given a demonstration with a King Cobra.

The highlight of the day was meeting Trevor, an 18ft Boa Constrictor who weighs 80kg!  Paul was so happy to have held so many snakes whilst learning all about their countries of origin and which snake families they all belong to. The staff were fantastic and their knowledge is just amazing.

Come sing! Feel good!

Our homes have had a fantastic time with vocal coach Mark De-Lisser as he led an amazing virtual singing session for our residents to enjoy. Our residents across our services were able to learn different techniques as they sang the famous ‘I’m a Believer’ by The Monkees. There were smiles and laugher all around. The session was such a success and was great for the mind, body and soul.

Book Club Corner

Residents across our services had a lovely time joining Daniel Snowman, for an exciting virtual event to discuss his book ‘Just Passing Through’.  Author of over a dozen books, Daniel Snowman’s long and active life has led him to interact in countless ways with the wider world and with some of its most famous inhabitants. His memoir evokes these experiences via a series of vivid literary vignettes.

Residents found the talk very intriguing and informative, and were happy to learn more about Daniel’s experiences around the world.  Book club corner is part of our varied life enrichment programme.

It's National Picnic Week!

To celebrate National Picnic Week, Residents enjoyed a day trip to a local beauty spot in the care home's mini bus with full support of familiar Carers and the home's Activities Coordinator Liz

The walk around a local Nature reserve was superb, the sun was shining and we met some lovely dogs along the way.

Chef Nick made a tasty picnic for everyone which was enjoyed under a shaded tree.

We are very lucky to have such landscape and beauty in our local area to truly appreciate.
