Activities at Leeming Bar Grange Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Kimberley Calvert

Senior Activities Coordinator

Hi my name is Kimberley, Senior Activities Coordinator, and here at Leeming Bar our life enrichment programme is varied, providing choice for our residents and incorporating their interests and hobbies.  We all know that keeping active is important. We have created a wonderful culture within Leeming Bar, and we work together to give residents the best possible experience.

We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active. We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centred program of events and activities. Essential to our homely feel is the strong relationships of trust we build with residents, and their families and friends.

Residents celebrate Armed Forces Day

To show support to our armed forces residents and staff spent time creating cards, decorations, and goodie bags; containing delicious biscuits homemade by our wonderful chef, Janet. Staff helped deliver these to our local military as a small token of our appreciation for all their hard work and dedication.

A huge thank you to all our servicemen and women; past, present, and future.

Residents have a wartime experience with Blenheim Palace

Ahead of Armed Forces Day, we were transported back in time for a World War II themed talk and tour of Blenheim Palace, hosted by Antonia Keaney, the Palace’s social historian and author.

Entitled ‘Evacuees and Espionage,’ Antonia’s wartime themed talk focused on how the Marlborough family, estate staff and the Palace itself played a full and energetic part in the war effort.

The talk and tour told the story of how the Palace prepared for the worst, survived the onslaught of 400 boys being evacuated to Blenheim and kept the secrets of MI5.

It was a lovely experience, enjoyed by all.

Cupcakes raise funds for Alzheimer's Society

National Cupcake Day has been a real treat at Leeming Bar Grange in Leeming Bar, where sweet-toothed staff and residents got out their aprons and mixing bowls to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society.

The day, organised by the Alzheimer’s Society, encourages groups and individuals to host a cupcake day to raise money for the charity, where funds will be put towards finding the cure for dementia. Dedicated Cupcakers have raised £2.7 million since 2016, and this year the charity hopes to raise even more to continue to support those affected by dementia.

Baking is a much-loved hobby for many people who live and work at Leeming Bar Grange. The team used the occasion to host a celebration of all things cupcake, residents and the team enjoyed decorating cupcakes and held a baking competition. After much deliberation team leader Tracey was announced as star baker for her delicious black forest cupcakes!

Life's a picnic at Leeming Bar Grange

Leeming Bar Grange care home went all out for National Picnic Day.

Residents and their visitors were invited into the homes garden for a teddy bears picnic. Residents and their loved ones brought their teddies along to enjoy live musical entertainment from The Cherry Tones. The grass became the dancefloor as residents and their loved ones danced and sang around the garden!

Teddy bear themed hampers were packed to the brim with treats such as freshly made sandwiches and cakes for residents and their loved ones to enjoy al fresco. The fun didn’t stop there as some of the other delights on offer included a range of refreshing beverages and snacks to take away and enjoy whilst relaxing after all the dancing.

It was an enjoyable day by all.

The residents of Leeming Bar Grange were delighted to welcome back hairdresser, Wendy.

Just like the rest of the country, residents had been waiting patiently for months to get their hair styled and so they were delighted to be able to book in for a long overdue cut and blow dry.

Vera, a resident at Leeming Bar Grange said: “I feel like a new woman! Everybody has said I look 10 years younger after having my hair done!"
