Activities at Leeming Bar Grange Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Kimberley Calvert

Senior Activities Coordinator

Hi my name is Kimberley, Senior Activities Coordinator, and here at Leeming Bar our life enrichment programme is varied, providing choice for our residents and incorporating their interests and hobbies.  We all know that keeping active is important. We have created a wonderful culture within Leeming Bar, and we work together to give residents the best possible experience.

We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active. We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centred program of events and activities. Essential to our homely feel is the strong relationships of trust we build with residents, and their families and friends.

Let the fun be-gin!

At our recent residents meeting residents requested to have a gin tasting afternoon so that's exactly what we did!

Residents sampled a range of gins, and gin liqueurs, including rhubarb & ginger, strawberries & cream, parma-violets, and blackberry shimmer! The strawberries & cream was a firm favourite, so much so we had to get the big glasses out!

Our bingo queen Mavis commented the only way the day could get better would be to have a game of bingo; so out came the dabbers!

What a fab Sunday afternoon!

English National Ballet dance workshop

We celebrated International Youth Day virtually with English National Ballet’s youth dance company, ENBYouthCo and their Creative Director, Richard Bermange.

We had the opportunity to watch A Comedy in Long-shot, participate in a chair-based creative dance workshop and observe an open rehearsal where Richard and the young dancers created a performance inspired by our childhood memories.

They took part and we didn’t realise Ballet was so meaningful, with all the different movements, and afterwards spoke of this and created their own movements and what it had meant to them.

It was a wonderful experience, enjoyed by all.

Residents get down with club culture!

We had a lovely time joining V&A Dundee curator, Kirsty Hassard, as she introduced us virtually to the history and design of night clubs and the club culture from the 1960s to present day.

We explored the evolution and development of night clubs around the world, from Italy to America, and closer to home, looked at their importance as cultural venues and designed spaces.

This current exhibition celebrates night clubs at a very important moment, as we all look to a brighter future where everyone can come back together, to dance and to enjoy nights out once again.

We all enjoyed the virtual talk.

Balloons At The Ready

Residents at Leeming Bar Grange recently marked the closing of the Olympics by having their very own balloon themed Olympic games. Residents competed against each other to win the coveted hand decorated medals.

As you can see one of our wonderful ladies even became a two-time gold medalist, showcasing some impressive balloon shot-put and balloon bouncing!

Mad Hatter's Tea Party

Thank you to everyone who came along on Saturday to make our Mad Hatter's tea party extra special. It was wonderful to see residents spending quality time with loved ones. A few showers here and there couldn't chase away those smiles!

The fun & games raised an impressive £203 to go towards the residents activity fund. Thank you to all for the kind donations

Happy International Day of Friendship

Residents at Leeming Bar had a wonderful day celebrating International Friendship Day!

We created our own sunshine in the home through singing & dancing, games, treats & the company of our dear friends! As the song goes; you make me happy when skies are grey.

A wonderful day, enjoyed thoroughly by all.
