Activities at Lindum House Care Home

Our fantastic Activities Coordinators make sure that there is a full programme of social events to suit all interests and capabilities. They aim to not only to stimulate, but to ensure that everyone involved has lots of fun. We enjoy trips out visiting local places of interest or just to explore, which inevitably ends up with us having a lovely lunch somewhere.

There are regular concerts that we hold in the home that allows us to have a good old singalong, and our community links include the local churches, knit and natter groups and toddler groups coming in to see residents.

On a daily basis, everyone enjoys a variety of activities, including quizzes, bingo, arts and crafts, reminiscing and movement to music. We also host movie afternoons on the big screen which, of course, involves popcorn and ice cream at the interval!

Any residents who are unable to join us in the communal areas for activities have one-to-one time in their rooms, with us either reading to them, chatting or anything else they wish to do that’s within their capabilities.

Kelly Rolph

Activities Co-ordinator

Hi there, I'm Kelly. My role at Lindum House ensures all of our residents always have lots of fun activities to look forward too.

I grew up down south, my parents worked in news trade & I've lived in many places! I've lived in hull for 20 years now, worked in health and social care for around 15 years, I started on care, worked through domestic, kitchen assistant and found my calling with activities!

I'm a super social person, enjoy being busy and sing in my spare time. I am part of a small singing charity group 'guise & gals'. I've been singing karaoke since I was 18 but never had the confidence to take it any further. I do, however, love putting on a show for our residents!

I'm a strong believer in 'treat people how you wish to be treated' everyone is different and it's important to focus on each individuals wants and needs, to encourage and nurture life, you only live once!

I'm full of energy, providing there is music... it's good for my soul!

Our residents smiles are my reward, it makes me so happy to see them enjoying them selves.

Virtual Sensory Storytelling Session

Our residents were treated to a special virtual sensory storytelling session.

Together with Art Historian Jon Sleigh and the Historic Royal Palaces community team, we explored several royal palaces through the theme of food, dining and celebration!

We enjoyed a fantastic taste-a-long experience from the comfort of our home, from Tudor treats to Stuart sweets.

A lovely time was had by all.

National Cheese Lovers Day

To celebrate National Cheese Lovers Day, we had a variety of cheese and bisciuits on offer to sample, with some grapes and plum chutney - all of which proved very popular.

The favourite, by quite a few votes, being the Wensleydale with either Cranberries or Apricots - and least favourite, again by quite a few votes, being the Cheddar made with Marmite!

Live talk from The Royal Parks London

We enjoyed a wonderful live virtual talk about starlings, one of the UK’s most gregarious birds, hosted by Rachel Dowse from The Royal Parks London.

Rachel examined our long history with this bird and the importance of common species to our lives. Our residents had the opportunity to find out more about the great murmuration and why we need to pay special attention to these beauties before it's too late.

The virtual experience was truly enjoyed by all.

Happy Winnie-the-Pooh Day!

As it was first published in 1926, our Residents have fond memories of these stories from their own Childhoods, then also reading them to their own children - and even grandchildren.

Our Residents shared their memories of the stories and really enjoyed looking at the illustrations.

We then watched some episodes on YouTube, again reminding the Residents of all their favourite characters.

One Resident mentioned how it was her husband that read their son these stories, changing his voice for each character, so brought back some special memories for her.

It was a great afternoon, enjoyed by all.

Visit from Recreo VR

Residents at Lindum House enjoyed a visit from Sam Recreo VR who use technology of VR to allow residents to enjoy new experiences and revisit places from their past to make a positive impact on the lives of people in care.

Residents experienced an African Safari, following a family of elephants, swimming with Whales, Close ups of Giraffes, walking on local beaches, feeding Meerkats - to name but a few.

We then went round all the Residents in their Rooms as well so that everyone was given the chance to join in.

A lovely, memorable afternoon was had by all and it was great to try something different!

We look forward to welcoming Sam back soon.

National Marzipan Day

Our Residents have learnt some "Fun Facts" about Marzipan today to celebrate this National Day - and, of course, it wouldn't have been the same without sampling some too!

Marzipan was used in the Middle Ages as a medicine, it's good for your brain health as it stimulates the Nervous System, when first brought over to Europe it was only eaten by Members of the Royal Family.
