Activities at Lindum House Care Home

Our fantastic Activities Coordinators make sure that there is a full programme of social events to suit all interests and capabilities. They aim to not only to stimulate, but to ensure that everyone involved has lots of fun. We enjoy trips out visiting local places of interest or just to explore, which inevitably ends up with us having a lovely lunch somewhere.

There are regular concerts that we hold in the home that allows us to have a good old singalong, and our community links include the local churches, knit and natter groups and toddler groups coming in to see residents.

On a daily basis, everyone enjoys a variety of activities, including quizzes, bingo, arts and crafts, reminiscing and movement to music. We also host movie afternoons on the big screen which, of course, involves popcorn and ice cream at the interval!

Any residents who are unable to join us in the communal areas for activities have one-to-one time in their rooms, with us either reading to them, chatting or anything else they wish to do that’s within their capabilities.

Kelly Rolph

Activities Co-ordinator

Hi there, I'm Kelly. My role at Lindum House ensures all of our residents always have lots of fun activities to look forward too.

I grew up down south, my parents worked in news trade & I've lived in many places! I've lived in hull for 20 years now, worked in health and social care for around 15 years, I started on care, worked through domestic, kitchen assistant and found my calling with activities!

I'm a super social person, enjoy being busy and sing in my spare time. I am part of a small singing charity group 'guise & gals'. I've been singing karaoke since I was 18 but never had the confidence to take it any further. I do, however, love putting on a show for our residents!

I'm a strong believer in 'treat people how you wish to be treated' everyone is different and it's important to focus on each individuals wants and needs, to encourage and nurture life, you only live once!

I'm full of energy, providing there is music... it's good for my soul!

Our residents smiles are my reward, it makes me so happy to see them enjoying them selves.

Visit from the Armed Forces Choir Hub

Thank you to the Armed Forces Choir Hub for coming and entertaining the Residents and Staff this afternoon.

We all had a really lovely time singing along with well known Christmas Songs and Carols.

One Resident said at the end "That was lovely - it really brought back memories for me"

What better comment could we ask for!

Tree Decorating

Today some of our Minster Suite Residents have been getting into the Christmas Spirit by decorating the Lounge's Tree and having their photos taken next to it.

We had Christmas songs and Carols playing in the background during this, which added to the Festive Atmosphere.

Elf Day

Lindum House celebrated Elf Day to raise awareness for the Alzheimer's Society so this afternoon we had a Special Appearance by an Elf, who managed to take some time away from the North Pole at this very busy time of year.

The Elf made the Staff and Residents in the Lounge all laugh and take double-looks when she first walked in!

She also dropped by Residents in their Rooms to spread some Christmas Joy - she really loved the smiles she helped create!

Due to having to wear Masks still, not many guessed the Elf was actually our very own Activities Co-ordinator, Stephanie - that is until she spoke in her dulcet tones, her unique combination of both Yorkshire & Brummie! (Just a bit of a give away!)

One particular Resident really entered into the Spirit and wanted to wear one of the Elf Hats too.

As you can tell from the Photo, our Café Bar Tree is up and decorated - the Minster and Westwood Trees are also up, but the decorations will continue tomorrow - ready for our Residents to have their Christmas Portraits next to a Tree of their choosing.

Visit to Beverley Minster

This week, two of our Residents accompanied Stephanie, our Activities Co-ordinator, to Beverley Minster to decorate Lindum House's Christmas Tree ahead of the Festival starting.

Resident, Josie, used to be a Welcomer at Beverley Minster for many years and was herself welcomed several times during our time there by people who remembered her.

This brought back some wonderful memories for her, and made her feel very loved.

Over the last couple of weeks, our Residents have all participated in the Bauble decoration groups and feel very honoured to be a part of the Festival.

Virtual trip to the Donkey Sanctuary

Across our services, Residents enjoyed a fantastic virtual tour of the Donkey Sanctuary Manchester.  Residents were thrilled to meet the lovely herd of donkeys, including Henry and his best friend Tiny Tim and to learn more about their every day care.  They were introduced to the sanctuary’s work and the impact they make to the lives of donkeys in need worldwide.  The virtual experience was truly enjoyed by all.

Thanksgiving!

Today our Residents made Thankful Trees to celebrate Thanksgiving and we discussed about what and who in our lives we are grateful to - including our favourite seasons, sunrises and sunsets and trips to the beach.

One Resident mentioned that she's most thankful for her Faith and the impact it has had on her life. Another mentioned Chocolate and everyone else agreed!
