Activities at Lochduhar Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Wreath making

As residents countdown to Christmas there is lots of creative festivities this month from decorating the trees, wreath making and lots of baubles and glitter!

A popular activity has been making star wreaths from wire coat hangers and Yolandes, holy and Christmas lights.  As we showed our creative sides everyone shared what Christmas meant to them over a cup of tea and a delicious mince pie.

The good life

Residents of Lochduhar have been busy growing their own plants as part of the homes gardening club and life enrichment programme.  Residents took to the garden to pick the last of the crop and were delighted with their Leeks. The Leeks were given to the kitchen who prepared some delicious leek and potato soup.

Bewitching tricks and spooky treats

Barchester’s Lochduhar care home was a den of ghoulish activity as the home’s spooky Halloween party got in to full swing. Staff, residents and guests got in to the spirit of things with fancy dress, music and games, as residents enjoy a glass of their favourite tipple.

General Manager, Gillian Ward cackled: “Our residents and staff love an opportunity to dress up and what better time of the year to do this than Halloween? We’ve had a whole range of tricks and treats for the people that live here and we have all really enjoyed every moment of it!”

Gentleman's Club

Residents at Lochduhar enjoy a varied life enrichment programme to keep the mind, body and soul active. Each day there are popular group activities bringing everyone together along with individual Resident centred activities.

The home have launched their own ‘Gentlemen’s Club’ and the gentlemen came together when senior carer, Brian who is also a trainee hairdresser volunteered to be a hairdresser for a day.  The gent’s gave Brian a thumbs up with a cut above as they felt brand new!

Residents share Remembrance experiences

As well as marking Remembrance Day by wearing poppies and watching the televised service, residents were delighted when the children from North West Nursery delivered a very special hand-made poppy wreath for the home.  Residents also joined the nursery for a Skype call where the children ask Residents who had served questions and were amazed with air-raid shelters, gas masks and the experiences which were shared.

Lochduhar commemorated Remembrance Day on Sunday 08th November, where they joined the rest of the United Kingdom in holding a two-minute silence at 11am.

Harvest fun

Its Autumn time and the residents of Lochduhar had fun in entering the Barchester Harvest competition. They had a wonderful time and a lot of fun making the Worzel Gummidge scarecrow and putting their harvest display together.  Residents also enjoyed decorating the homes front entrance with hay bales kindly donated by a local farmer along with seasonal fruits from the home’s local Tesco superstore.  Thank you to all who supported the home.
