Activities at Mallard Court Care Home
We provide a wide range of group activities and individual one to one activities to meet our residents needs including musical entertainers, PAT dog visits, minibus outings, themed events and much more!
We take a person centred approach when planning each individuals activities so they can achieve a feeling of self worth and well-being.
We hold monthly meetings with the residents and also regular meetings with their family and friends, discussing any ideas that they may have, and also any problems that their may have. Both of our activities coordinators, Steve and Lynne, have completed NAPA Activity Workers Level 2 Award training, and are continually seeking new ideas so we can ensure life in the home is as varied and interesting as possible. We encourage strong community links with the local schools, colleges and local charities in the community. Steve is supported also by his dogs, Tia, Pebbles and Oscar who give great pleasure to the residents in our home, and can often be seen either on a persons lap or being taken for a walk around the home. Many of the visitors that come into Mallard Court commented that it is so friendly and welcoming.
Steve Moss
Hi, my name is Steve, and I have been a Lifestyle Coordinator at Mallard Court since 2006, and have achieved the NAPA (National Association of Activity Providers) Level 2 Award in Activity Provision in the Care Sector.
We provide a wide range of activities for the people we support, as well as for their families and friends. I also love to have one-to-one chats with residents who like to reminisce about their lives over a cup of tea and some biscuits.
We have our own minibus and have fun days out sight-seeing, having a picnic or going a local pub for a drink and a meal. We also arrange for local artists to provide musical entertainment for everyone at Mallard Court.

Life at Mallard Court Care Home
Pet Therapy
The residents at Mallard Court recently welcomed some special visitors for an afternoon of pet therapy. The home regularly hosts pet therapy sessions, allowing these four-legged friends to spend a few hours meeting all the residents.
Pet therapy can help reduce stress, anxiety, and depression. It can also increase self-esteem and improve social skills, so everyone was absolutely delighted to have them along. It is very beneficial to those who spend time in their rooms and find great comfort in the visits.
This particular activity is part of the homes 'meaningful activities', where residents have access to a huge variety of activities, all tailored to specific likes and dislikes.
We are rated 'Good'!
Mallard Court passed a recent Care Quality Commission inspection with an overall 'Good' rating after being praised for a responsive, safe, effective, caring and well-led service. The CQC inspected the home on 25th November and 2nd December 2019 and rated the home, run by Barchester Healthcare, as “Good” overall.
The report stated that “staff demonstrated a passion for person centred care and placed peoples’ wellbeing at the heart of their work.” The report went on to say that “interactions between staff and people were natural and showed positive relationships had been developed” Also highlighted in the report was that “staff were committed and passionate about treating people as individuals and responded quickly to peoples’ changing needs.”
Well done to everyone who has made to possible!
The After Hours Trio
Residents of Mallard Court recently enjoyed an afternoon of musical entertainment with ‘After hours Trio’ who bring joy to residents throughout the communty through their live performances.
The concert was organised by Music in Hospitals & Care and was made possible thanks to the generosity of the Joseph and Annie Cattle Trust. The After Hours Trio entertained everyone and all had a great time listening to fabulous tunes.
Getting Competitive
Residents of Mallard Court love coming together for fun-filled game sessions—and a game of dominoes is no different. Games are a popular feature in the homes' activities calendar, with a number of residents having a great time playing a game of dominoes with each other, and even squeezing in a quick natter and a cuppa in between games.
Once the games had drawn to an end, they were joined by other residents to sit down to enjoy more tea and cakes together as they shared memories of playing their favourite board games.
Armchair Exercise
Residents of Mallard Court enjoyed their regular armchair aerobics sessions. Our instructor knows everyone’s ability during the session, so it is tailored to the residents' needs and capabilities.
There was an excellent turnout with plenty joining in. Everyone enjoys a sing-a-long with their gentle light exercise, along with pieces of fun equipment to keep everyone interested. This popular group session lasts approximately 40 mins before they sit back and relax over a cup of tea.
Armchair exercise is just one of the many fun activities held at the home as part of their extensive calendar, and they welcome members of the community to join them at any time.
