Activities at The Manor Care Home

Our activities staff are here 7 days a week and are constantly striving to mentally and physically stimulate those we care for in a group or individual basis. From trips to garden centres, the theatre, and flower shows to personal shopping and attending family events. We also love organising Christmas fairs, our famous classic car show, musicians, entertainment, and pizza and pint evenings. The team encourage families to visit and work closely with our volunteers to ensure that our residents social care is a priority, so that they have a fun filled and enriched stay whilst here at The Manor.

Marc Chidgey

Life Enrichment Lead

I have worked at The Manor since 2012, starting out as a kitchen assistant, where I replenished drinks and snacks and assisted in serving meals in communal areas. During this time, outside of the kitchen, I enjoyed meeting residents and took pleasure in seeing their engagement during activities. My interest in resident activities was evident, and I was offered the opportunity to transfer to the activities team.

I love to spend time with residents. I enjoy hearing their stories and finding out what activities interest them. I aim to keep them as active as possible, and my top priority is to instill fun and laughter at The Manor.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Steam Train to Minehead

We had a lovely trip out on the steam train yesterday with West Somerset Steam Railway - Bishops Lydeard. We enjoyed an amazing trip to Minehead which was very windy but never the less enjoyable. A huge thank you to all the staff there as they were ever so helpful. See you again in a few week.

Bracken Our Superstar

In January we nominated Bracken our PAT dog for the animal award incorporated with the make a difference BBC awards. Paula came into today to say she received a call from BBC Somerset to say that Bracken has made it into the final four selection. We could not be anymore grateful for everything Paula does here and the happiness Bracken brings to all our residents. Finger crossed he wins the main award in September, although he is always our winner here.

Our New Rainbow Table

Everyone is absolutely loving our new rainbow table by The Digital Rainbow Ltd. Residents have been enjoying colouring, doing a spot of window cleaning, unveiling fantastic locations, ten pin bowling and even a spot off fishing!

There’s so much more we can do with this device and we can't wait to explore more. One of the best features is the ability to take the table throughout the home for all the residents to enjoy.

Watching Spring Bloom

One of the residents was watching our maintenance team hard at work from the dining room and decided he wanted to go for a walk around the grounds with his friend. We put on our coats and went for a lovely stroll around beautiful gardens. As we passed the maintenance team he looked over the work they had completed and gave them a thumbs up. Both the gentleman were admiring and enjoying the grounds and they both absolutely loved our magnolia tree!

Eggscellent Easter at The Manor

What a fabulous Easter weekend we have had here at The Manor! We spent Saturday morning making some delicious Easter nests for everyone to enjoy throughout the day and played some Easter bingo in the afternoon.

On Easter Sunday we had some special guests visit us, as the Easter Bunny and their friend the Chick gave out some Easter treats.

On Willow unit they spent the day hunting away for some chocolate eggs that they all enjoyed.
